I live in New York, and am frequently near the area where Carrie Bradshaw ‘lived’ on Sex and the City.
There are tour buses dedicated to that show, going to the shop where the characters buy vibrators and the Magnolia Bakery. The owner of the building they used as her residence had to put a chain across the front to stop people from taking selfies.
Firefly. Watched almost the whole TV Show but didn’t enjoy it much. I do not get its appeal.
House. I could practically tell you what time it was past the hour based on the repetitive beats in every single episode, but people loved it. I love Hugh Laurie, but I have to leave the room if someone wants to watch it, because it grates my nerves.
I loved house but it was very much a traditional TV show with a made for TV format. It also kinda devolves a bit in the later seasons. The first ones are definitely great but they weren’t meant to be binged.

Tried to like it. Watched 2 whole seasons and I only have memories of the scenes that were popular meme gifs
I didn’t dislike it but honestly got bored
Breaking Bad. I’m sure it’s an entirely entertaining experience, with danger and drama and all of that, but I’m too sensitive and easily bothered by great immorality, and honestly I’m also a bit too critical of male weakness… Like, Walter, either move to Europe or die, my guy. You’re such a frail, ungrateful, unsatisfied b* that you have to do all of that?! I only watched an episode and a half because it’s in my wife’s top 3 but it wasn’t for me, and not because it’s a bad show… I just didn’t agree with having to follow this guy, there are enough villains IRL.
I watched a few episodes but the reality of the situation was too close to what I have witnessed growing up. Meth is just such a corrosive drug, everyone I knew that tried it was destroyed. I just couldn’t stomach that aspect and can’t watch it.
But from what I gathered is that Walter has a wife and special needs kid He’s terminal and wants to leave them with something for when he’s gone. He’s the chemistry teacher so knows how to do what needs to be done. After the first batch, he didn’t really plan on continuing until the market comes to demand his product. So he makes more and more problems are created and that’s about where I stopped.
He couldn’t leave the country because he thought he only had a short time to live and he had to care for his kid and do something to give his wife a chance when he’s gone
From what I saw (and he was fantastically acted), Walter was doing it for himself at least as much as he was doing it “for the right reasons” . Like, it’s fine, I’m sure there’s family that can help… I mean, my uncle with Down’s syndrome is healthy at 61 (thank God!) and has always been cared for by family. I just can’t picture anyone reasonable and with a minimum of morality to be like “oh I have terminal cancer? Time to become a drug lord!”, idk.
I have a special place in my heart for people with Down’s. They are always such amazing characters. I hope your uncle continues to have good health, it’s rare for them to get so old and still be healthy
You’re very sweet! And yeah, I haven’t seen him in so long (I emigrated), but he still recognises me and chats with me through video calls. Man’s bright, he has always been verbal and lucid (and even used to flirt with my mom’s friends, lol), he just has Down’s! 😅🙏
in the 90s I worked at a grocery store and one of the baggage clerks was a guy in his 50s with Down’s. He was always polite and kind. He clearly liked the young ladies that worked with us but he was never inappropriate. One day he and I were in the back cleaning up and I looked in his backpack lol dude had a bunch of new porn tapes in there. I was laughing when he noticed I saw it and poor guy was so embarrassed until I told him it’s fine. He then went on to tell me about his 1000+ tape collection!

My kids and spouse were in to BB, but I paid limited attention bc I wanted to watch it from the beginning.
About 18 months back, I started from the beginning.
Watched 4 episodes. Found it brutal to watch: the dialogue, acting, storyline - all sucked imo.
I know it got better, as I had glimpses of the last few seasons, but I couldn’t be arsed to watch any more episodes waiting for it to get better, and I wonder how people did.And it’s so acclaimed too… I’m gonna be charitable and say something perhaps just isn’t clicking with us. 🤷
Same, I have started this series two times and for whatever reason, it didn’t click with me either. All my friends were like, “it is the best!”
Mad Men. More interested in the ad campaigns than the character drama.
The Office (UK) - So the joke is, the boss thinks he’s hilarious but he really, really, is not? Over and over? How not-funny someone is?

I have had so many fucking people recommend I sit down and watch it. I’ve tried. I simply cannot get into it, and at this point, I’m halfway convinced that what people actually enjoyed was the sense of community around the show.
Lost’s hype was the product of it’s time, back when there was no streaming or binge watching newly aired shows. Particularly season 1. I still remember how we used to wait for it every week to catch the new episode. I think a lot of it’s flaws are more evident when you’re able to binge watch it.
I watched it for the first time during Covid and really enjoyed it. I do agree that the community aspect was probably a big part of it. I went online a bit while watching it to see what people thought might be going on (while being careful to avoid spoilers).
I also enjoyed the ending, partially because I didn’t have a big community build up and partially because I knew it was disliked by many, so I had low expectations.
I don’t think I would strongly recommend it to anyone that hasn’t seen it. The majority of best episodes are in the first few seasons, and by the end it gets a bit convoluted, but it’s probably worth it overall.
The Walking Dead. Tried 4 separate times to watch it and could never get past the first episode.
Be glad you never got to season 2.
Probably helps if you’re a fan of the comic.
i love the comics but couldn’t stand the show
The show was best when it stuck close to the comics, the farther away it got, the worse it got.
I loved the comics also, really well done, but after the second season of the TV series, it turns into straight up soap opera drama. The same thing is happening with ‘The Last of Us.’ I am about to give up on this show.
Dr Who. I just couldn’t, and I love sci fi but maaan. Also it doesn’t help there is a truckload of episodes to see. Dude I don’t have the time.
Same with One Piece…If it helps, doctor who isn’t sci-fi, it’s “sci-fantasy”. None of the tech is ever explained in any way other than sort of the sonic screwdriver, kinda sorta, it just works or doesn’t based on what the show needs.
There’s some vague sci-fi elements to it, but overall it’s pure fantasy. So if that’s not what you are looking for, totally understandable that it wouldn’t be your bag.
The ones that focus more on drama and petty fighting are always really hard to get into.
Also some are just so violent it’s hard to watch them, like game of thrones.
Half the reason I like sci-fi so much is that it’s the genre which most often avoids pointless interpersonal drama.
I like to watch shows that are about things happening and how the characters deal with those things, not just jealous relationship fighting and people who can’t even decide whose side they’re on.
Don’t get me wrong - character conflict is necessary for any good show, regardless of the genre, but I don’t want the entire show to be that.
Imagine my surprise when I tried to read Hyperion and it’s told in separate vignettes about each characters back story. 🙄
Yeah I tend to like sci-fi a lot because of that as well, plus just cool spaceships or whatever haha
- X-Men '97. It’s one of the best animated superhero projects to come out in years. The animation and writing are outstanding. The characters are compelling. I only watched the first two episodes and I have no desire to ever rewatch the series.
- My Adventures With Superman. Another excellent animated superhero TV series. I loved the changes and updates to introduce Clark and the others into the 2020s. This version of Lois Lane is especially great. I watched the first four episodes and have no plans to ever watch it again.
- Arcane. I won’t deny the animation is unlike anything that’s come out this decade, and from what I’ve heard, the story/wtiting is an absolute slam dunk. But I couldn’t make it through the first episode, I thought it was too depressing. It’s a greatly crafted series with lots of high production values, but it’s just not my thing.
The Sopranos. I watched season 1, I think I watched ep 1 of season 2, then just said nah and haven’t really looked back.
I like the sopranos, but I still don’t get why it’s so great. It was good, but I didn’t think it was that good.
Breaking Bad, Games of Thrones, Fall Out. They are unfunny/uninteresting dogshit
Stranger Things is awful, cannot wait to be forgotten
I finished The Office for my friend, there’s more bad episodes that there’s good one.
