There is no such thing as a “good” pope. There are bad popes, and there are worse popes. We should count ourselves very, very lucky that right now, we only got a bad pope. But the Catholic Church is an enitity quite like the United States, in that it’s so monumentually evil than it even does good in evil ways. I’m not naive enough to think either will ever elect a good leader; my only hope is that their institutions eventually crumble and can be replaced with something better.
I’ve been trying to articulate that. There’s so much historic and systematic violence that, like cops, there’s just no such thing as a good one.
Absolutely. No amount of lies piled on top of each other leads to a good outcome. All religions are just lies and fiction passed off as reality. Whenever you start to distort the reality of your followers, you hurt them, their brains, and their ability to tell reality from fiction. On everything, not just religion.
They can’t stop lying. If they do, then they admit that they have zero actual proof of anything. That the whole thing is the “Trust me, bro” of writers that died thousands of years ago and have had other writers change their works many times for many reasons.
It’s been going on for thousands of years, hurting people in the same ways for hundreds of generations of your family and mine.

Religions as we know them lack any evidence for the supernatural bits. But this doesn’t mean one can safely say there is no possibility of any religion being correct.
It falls into Not Even Wrong. Nothing more than a what-if question. There is nothing to discuss until evidence is brought to the table.

There were options that were a lot, lot worse for the world right now. Not getting a Nazi pope is a huge win for progressives in the U.S. and Europe. I’m seeing some people on the net painting this as though queers lost our chance at having someone sympathetic in the papacy, when that just wasn’t seriously ever on the table.
For sure, there’s entirely too much negativity online lately, 100% behind being pleased when a decent thing happens, especially when a perfect thing absolutely wasn’t going to.
Stop pretending this pope is a darling, he’s still running a multibillion dollar corporation that has only one souce of income - lying to people.
Cash now, reward after you die. It’s an obvious scam that hurts the desperate poor, mentally unstable, and disabled.
Then there’s the priests raping children.
Then there’s the LGBTQ hate spread by their hate filled religious hate book that they refuse to change.
There’s the ultra-conservative teachings they spread to small children, the weird hell fiction that they have to threaten every single child with.
Fuck this pope. Fuck the last pope. Fuck the nazi pope before that one. Fuck catholicism, and fuck those that support it.

Yeah he has criticized vance and Trump on social media, but he represents an evil organization that teaches harmful things. He personally has taught those harmful things. He is catholic
Pope Francis allegedly used the term “frociaggine” once, which is an Italian derogative term for “homosexuality”. The full sentence was “There is already too much frociaggine” meaning inside the catholic institution. I don’t remember what was the discussion taking place in the Vatican, but this is just to say that all of them are phobic bigots deep down.
The entire religion is anti-LGBTQ. They relish their fictional story about their fictional god murdering fictional people by turning them into salt for being LGBT. That’s what they are ALL taught is the proper punishment for being LGBT. It’s in the book. They refuse to take it out. There are many other examples, this is just blatantly obvious hate.
How many voting bishops are required to amend the bible?
