    He served for 20 years, it wasn’t just boot camp. In that time he learned to paint, and eventually earned more money painting than he was getting in the Air Force and retired. The core is accurate though, he said that he was tired of being mean and didn’t want to yell anymore.

    • His time in the military also heavily influenced his landscape paintings. He was stationed in Alaska, and thought it had some of the most breathtaking landscapes he had ever seen. That’s why so many of his paintings feature rolling mountain ranges and evergreens.

      • What time period did he serve? He’s not that much older than my dad, who was also stationed in Alaska when he was in the military. Kinda wonder if they met or had a chance to have, at least.

      I knew he did both but thought he painted after he left the armed forces like as a hobby at first. Thanks for the new info. I never actually followed or watched much of him but do remember seeing him regularly enough channel surfing way back then.
