minus-square@NewDarklink-10•2 months agoDid Leia keep claiming she wants the most lethal military in the galaxy too?
minus-square@essell@lemmy.worldlinkfedilink16•2 months agoShe was a leading figure in a paramilitary organisation, both before and after the death of the emperor. So, maybe?
minus-squareFlying SquidOPlinkfedilink12•2 months agoYeah, you’d think that would be exactly what she wanted.
minus-square@NewDarklink4•2 months agoWhat do you think the United States is more like? A guerilla insurgency or a miltaristic empire imposing its will on the rest of society?
minus-square@NewDarklink4•2 months agoLiterally the whole first trilogy is an allegory for the Vietnam war where the US is the empire
minus-square@Cryophilia@lemmy.worldlinkfedilink1•2 months agoI think he was saying that the US began as am insurgency.
minus-square@NewDarklink2•2 months agoGood point and interpretation. Didn’t think of the language as a progression in time instead of a ranking.
minus-square@NewDarklink2•edit-22 months agoSo Leia isn’t a great analog. Maybe a Vader / Palpatine election would be closer to reality I misread that, hold up. The United States of America spends more money on it’s military than the next 10 countries COMBINED. The United States has ~800 military bases all around the world in foreign countries. This doesn’t sound like an empire to you?

So the internet certainly tells me.
