PhilipTheBucket@piefed.socialto News@lemmy.world•Bill Clinton allegedly contributed to Epstein birthday book, letter among other documentsEnglish4·44 minutes agoFuckin’ great, lock his old ass up too.
Throwback, also, to the Lemmy fake-leftist who was pretending that back in the 1990s him and all his activist friends were super excited for Bill Clinton and all his leftist politics, and lecturing me about how far the Democratic Party has fallen since then. Fuckin’ what lol. I was around for it, literally 0 of us were as excited about Bill Clinton and his balanced budget as this guy was pretending that him and all the left were back then.

They deleted the post saying ‘never again’ applies to all people, and explained that some people might have thought they included Palestinians in “all people” when they said that, and they officially said they didn’t want to give that impression.

PhilipTheBucket@piefed.socialto Ye Power Trippin' Bastards@lemmy.dbzer0.com•[Update] Am I crazy for thinking this is power-tripping?English4·11 hours agotheir role is to facilitate conversation, not control it.
Broadcast it when someone opens up the mod controls, put it on the site banner, print it on a T-shirt.
It’s actually really valuable even when there is an objectively correct answer, to let the people who understand that correct answer speak with the people who think something else, and let everyone just work things out. Just shutting down anyone who has the “incorrect” opinions right away out of the gate, and telling them they’ll be banned if they keep it up, is some culty nonsense.
PhilipTheBucket@piefed.socialto Ye Power Trippin' Bastards@lemmy.dbzer0.com•[Update] Am I crazy for thinking this is power-tripping?English2·11 hours agoThere are a lot of mods who think their job is to remove any opinion that they personally disagree with, in order to keep the conversation “correct.”
The fact that your opinion here was objectively the correct one is just icing on the cake (and for some reason that additional irony is commonly seen when this mod philosophy is involved, I honestly have no idea why.)
I won’t say PTB, since it looks like cooler heads prevailed and everything’s fine now, but in my opinion this mod should be scheduled for some additional training or something. IDK, maybe it gets boring if you have the mod controls and it’s a little exciting event whenever you get to jump up and start using them, I don’t really know. Anyway glad it worked out.

It’s more America losing than China winning.
Sounds great! For the nth time, it sounds like we agree on pretty much everything you just said. I think your extensive lectures need to be directed at the person I replied to, not at me.
PhilipTheBucket@piefed.socialto World News@lemmy.world•Over 300 South Koreans to return home after arrests at US Hyundai plantEnglish1·13 hours agoSo you stopped reading at “Trumpian Fascism,” 4 words into the message, and decided to miss “will make China look good” and all the other stuff that I was disagreeing with? Glad we got that sorted out lol.
I agree with what you’re saying now, still just not sure what it has to do with public opinion polls in Korea or “make China look good.”
PhilipTheBucket@piefed.socialto World News@lemmy.world•Over 300 South Koreans to return home after arrests at US Hyundai plantEnglish2·14 hours agoSee that all makes sense. What the other guy said was what I was pushing back on.
PhilipTheBucket@piefed.socialto World News@lemmy.world•Over 300 South Koreans to return home after arrests at US Hyundai plantEnglish1·14 hours agoOh, I can certainly believe that Hyundai would do this. My thought process actually went something along the lines of:
- Oh that’s pretty fascinating
- Wait, I feel like this is exactly the type of propaganda that would get spread on social media, I think this person should dig into the source of their story and make sure it wasn’t some kind of lying that they had believed
- Oh they said it was firsthand knowledge never mind
- Wait WTF I’m on social media right now
- Also their explanation for “Hyandai” makes literally 0 sense
- Ooooohhhh… yeah.
I think if the explanation for “Hyandai” had been “oh my bad lol” then I wouldn’t have really felt any particular strong skepticism, but that aspect pushed it over the edge to me.
PhilipTheBucket@piefed.socialOPto Politics@beehaw.org•Georgians To Protest Massive Ice Raid At Hyundai Plant, Condemn Kemps CollaborationEnglish2·14 hours agoIt sounds highly likely that that’s the plan. Without the workers to run the plant, IDK how it would function.
PhilipTheBucket@piefed.socialto World News@lemmy.world•Over 300 South Koreans to return home after arrests at US Hyundai plantEnglish2·20 hours agoI am deeply skeptical of your story. This is the kind of thing that’s super-easy to prove, and I feel like if they were finding real immigration fraud at this plant, they would be half-likely to actually try to enforce against it since that was exactly what they did the raid for and it would have been detected in 2 seconds once they started checking IDs. And even if not, it would be half-likely that that aspect of the story would leak to the press in some form at some point.
The whole thing where your phone autocorrected a real word to a totally nonexistent word makes me further skeptical of the whole thing. I won’t say either is impossible, but they both seem unlikely.
PhilipTheBucket@piefed.socialto World News@lemmy.world•Over 300 South Koreans to return home after arrests at US Hyundai plantEnglish91·21 hours agoI would be a little bit surprised if the people in charge of high-level trade are that simple-minded.
China was already a great reliable trade partner. They have other issues as does any nation, but attractiveness for trade wasn’t really one of them, they were already pretty bangin’ in that regard, and the US losing its status as a good investment doesn’t suddenly mean that Chinese markets will become always a safe investment by default. I feel like these narratives like “trade relations = loyalty and friendship, there can be only one favorite nation-crush” are sort of for public consumption.
PhilipTheBucket@piefed.socialto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why is Bolsonaro still so popular in Brazil that tens of thousand people took to the street to protest his trial?English120·22 hours agoBecause right-wind ideologues have gotten super skilled at hoodwinking the common people into thinking they’re on their side.
PhilipTheBucket@piefed.socialto politics @lemmy.world•Stop Acting Like This Is NormalEnglish5·1 day agoNYT is only center-left within the American political spectrum. In any normal democracy they’d be a pretty staunchly conservative paper. They have a long history of cheering for all kinds of American imperialism (Nicaragua -> Iraq War -> drone strikes, with Israel as a consistent through line) and they have a long history of shitting on or downplaying candidates who are more or less smack in line with the country’s population’s general political alignment (Bernie Sanders / Mamdani), because they are way too far left for the media’s political alignment.

PhilipTheBucket@piefed.socialto World News@lemmy.world•Over 300 South Koreans to return home after arrests at US Hyundai plantEnglish123·2 days agoFor those who were curious, “home” means South Korea, not their homes they made in the US.
Also there’s this:
Lee’s government even promised at least $50bn of investments during his recent meeting with Trump, a gesture that resulted only in a “crackdown” against South Korean citizens.
CBS, are you paying attention? Probably not.
PhilipTheBucket@piefed.socialto politics @lemmy.world•Stop Acting Like This Is NormalEnglish25·2 days agoSeriously. I am having trouble finding the Reddit AMA from before the election (which is its own little brand of worrying), where one of the New York Times editors was asked why they were so hyper-critical of Biden on a few different valid bases, but willing to give a broad free pass to Trump on many objectively horrifying things he was doing or planning. And they basically said, well Trump’s popular and Biden is not, so we’re reflecting that reality, it’s okay if you don’t understand news you’re not a professional like me 😎.
I’m glad if they found their voice now that it’s more or less too late, but I still admit to a little bit of guilty desire to see Trump’s goons smash up their offices or something, so that maybe they’ll take the lesson a little more thoroughly to heart, and fucking remember next time what their fucking job is.
PhilipTheBucket@piefed.socialto World News@lemmy.world•Over 300 South Koreans to return home after arrests at US Hyundai plantEnglish3·2 days agoYeah. If you look at what the directives have been from above, it’s very very obvious in retrospect that ICE would be just wandering around arresting people completely at random, because they will literally get in trouble if they do literally anything else.
I think I said quite a while ago that the Lemmy troll brigades should really invest some effort into pro-Israel accounts, they could get a ton of mileage out of them. I have mixed feelings about the fact that they seem to have taken up the challenge. I used to never see this stuff.
