Every bug tracker seems to do this, and if you submit it again yours will be closed as a duplicate.

I hate those bug trackers and forums. Like you have a problem that is quite difficult to explain. Then, after some time you finally stumbled upon a thread where someone else has the exact same issue… but there is NO solution and the thread was locked due to inactivty.

        WHY!?

I recall reading an article about version numbers, and it mentioned an interesting example of some app where the version number is essentially pi. Each update just adds another digit to the version, so eventually it’s going to get really long. When the developer dies, all the remaining bugs in the software will officially become undocumented features.

One time I had this experience in reverse; I was investigating a problem and found a forum post about it from an ex coworker with a recognizable username. (Unfortunately he hadn’t found a solution, either.)

I had that once! Googled “how to run X on Y” and got a familiar name on a mailing list. Turns out he already did what I was about to try to do.

I’ve run into that where code was twisted in knots, so I went with an intuitive approach, just to run into an error. See ex employee from before my time’s post. Revert, add comment detailing why, with link to post.

Edit - Also, another coworker reviewing PR with notes commenting “oh yeah, I wasted a day on that too. Good call on the comment and link”

I once posted an issue for Kibana not letting you pick colors manually for certain graphs.

By the time they got around to it I had changed jobs 3 times.

Picking colors manually on a dashboard is a super basic feature

Reminds me of the guy who was the original reporter of a fault in some software that went unfixed for years.

He eventually applied for, and got, a job at that software’s company.

His first day, he logs on, and goes to find and then fixes that bug.

With a sigh of relief, he then logs off and quits the job.

(I believe this is a true story, but someone will undoubtedly be along in a minute to confirm or correct. With a sigh of relief no doubt.)

Welcome to most egregious civil rights breaking corporate fuckup forums!

“Hi, your software breaks the law. Help!” (I also have this question: 2242)

"Hi! Welcome, my name is Michael Smith and am a featured 5 star pro forum solver, I have never heard of this issue, I can’t for the life of me picture such a behavior, never seen it or thought of it myself or heard any complaints online or seen news segments about it or any court proceedings in the Hague!

Can you post your PC setup and which browser you are using? In the meantime I will lock this thread as it’s been solved. Remember, we are all volunteers here, with no connection to Evilcorp.com, just love what we do"

Even better idea: Rent a warehouse, buy some pizzas, and fix the bug ourselves!

I know I’d enjoy that much more than a beach house
