Alendra ‘Len’ Harris says she feels validated by the judge’s ruling, which she says also backs up the hundreds of similar allegations from other Starbucks workers around the country who have unionized in an effort to get better pay and working conditions.
Should be backpay and a half at least to make it an actual deterrent, but whatever
Back pay, interest. And a whopping fine.
Republicans are blocking the bill that would allow the NLRB to issue fines for ULPs.
And of course they are…

i mean, that’s messy. think of the cleaners…
No no, I vote we banish them to some kind of thunderdome 2.0… 2 walk in.
Two men enter, no man leaves?
don’t, uh, tell them that part.
I volunteer to clean up for free. I’ll even drive up there out of pocket.
Keelhaul?
Not to mention, re-hiring is kinda bullshit. Who’s going to want to feel comfortable working at an employer that fucked them over once already?
I’m sure she’s going to have an excellent working environment and management that really appreciates her.
Yeah, but good on her for fighting back.
I’ve been in a similar position, and can attest to it being something that takes a toll on your energy, mood, and health. The fact that she went to court and is going back is impressive as fuck.
Some times being the martyr is genuinely useful. She made an achievement, and she isn’t obligated to stay afterwards. She could have just moved on without fighting for justice.
She only has to work one day to get her backpay
We need more unions.
I wish the programming industry would unionize, but it’s just not something I see happening any time soon if ever.
Tech people love to think they don’t need unions. Unfortunately.
IT in general is the biggest industry that has risen to its level of prominence since the heyday of unions. We’ve all been conditioned to be in conflict/competition with our fellow IT workers and also that we’re easily replaceable. Couple that with it being a fairly safe in comparison to mining or factory work and you have the recipe for not unionizing. Ironically only the medical industry would bring the country to a halt with a strike faster than if every support tech, analyst, designer, and engineer walked off the job tomorrow
I understand if Medical Industry just strikes could grind the country to a halt. But for a statement with IT not causing huge issue on day one if everyone in IT industry just strike. Good chance it will affect not just the medical but also everything else. I think we’re underestimating how integrated IT is in our society. Some of those 99.9% uptime servers are basically just 50/50 a day and can just breakdown suddenly for little to no reason at all and someone not in the helm or on call could become a nightmare situation.
Not all of them, I’d love to have a union but it’s just not likely to happen.
Props to her and all the people fighting for better things. Unions have made some great gains last year.
Starbucks is evil coffee for evil people
Not even good evil coffee!!!
If you’re going to have evil coffee, it should at least be good
The e person in the article is extra evil for getting their job back!
What about punitive payments to cover mental health, legal and financial costs related to the firing?
This is the type of person I admire.
Hope she sticks it to them and the rest of her colleagues come to her defence.
Yeah, she’s a cool cookie
Why couldn’t Starbucks just ignore the just ignore the judge like they ignored the law?
Video says they may appeal, which is the next best thing
Then they send in Judge Dredd because he is the law
By coincidence, I’m wearing a tshirt supporting Starbucks unionization from last night. It’s the rainbow one.
shit coffee suffocating small coffee shops doing infinitely better work
Sounds like a case where they’ll shut down the entire location and move across the street.
CBS actually said ‘backpay’ without the space. I’m sorry I didn’t notice when the last high-school graduate was let go.
They probably let AI write it and the AI did it for stylistic choice to impress robocop
