          Fair enough. I should have been more specific, I guess. Could you explain the difference as relates to Google’s Android implementation?

            As owner of the Android project Google is in control of changes made to it.

            If Android was just one mobile os among many, they wouldn’t have the power to force people to go along with these changes. Who cares if a company with i.e. 2% marketshare does stupid things. Just buy another brand next time.

            However, given that Google and Apple have a de-facto duopoly in the western mobile market in terms of software, people can either stick with Android or switch to iOS which is arguably even worse in terms of device lockdown.
