I live about 2 blocks from the crash. Monday was a frenzy with police everywhere and 4-5 helicopters in the sky. Last night, the police had the suspects block closed off. I think they were executing a search warrant on his home.

From the NYT article, the driver - with only a probationary license - was released and allowed to go home that night. His father is apparently a police officer.

He then livestreamed, rambling about a hit and run in another town that left two girls dead, and that he wasn’t authorized to talk about it.

Later, thanking the audience he’s accumulated since he was twelve years old:

"And regardless of what happens, if you don’t see me streaming for a little bit, you’ll understand why.”

This type of deranged individual is why protected bicycle lanes should be standard. But I’m sure New Jersey will install some new paint and a ‘share the road’ sign.

In the exchange, Elio told Vincent to stop bothering Maria, who was Elio’s girlfriend then. Vincent threatened to release nude photos of her.

“I’m not leaving her alone until she apologizes to me,” he added. Vincent sent Elio a nude photo of a girl.

“I did it to one girl,” Vincent wrote. “I’ll do it to another.” He added: “Keep running your mouth and I’ll create your girls nudes” right now.

Some serious !fuck_ai@lemmy.world shit right there. Archive link for the NYT article.

Yeah, but you know the cat’s out of the bag now, and there’s no turning back the clock when there’s so much out there in the form of open source that it can never be gotten rid of or otherwise contained. Nothing we don’t see with our own eyes will ever be trustworthy again, making “I reject your reality, and substitute my own” SOP for the vast majority of people - both those unhinged, and those not.

I can’t stand all the hyper-religious “the end is nigh” types, but unfortunately I’m starting to think they’re right - just not quite for the reasons they think.

No, NJ won’t do that. We’ll put up road work signs, close the road, and then a year later fuck all will have changed.

You give it a year? Have you ever been down I-287? There are road work signs that have been there for well over a decade!

Before Vincent Battiloro was charged with intentionally hitting and killing two 17-year-old girls at 70 mph, he shared rambling livestreams that included his need for “vengeance” against one of the girls.

For hours at a clip, the 17-year-old from Garwood played MLB games, ranted about sports and politics and occasionally veered into darker topics to his more than 40,000 followers.

Yet illegal immigrants are the “real threat.” If this asshole was ranting so much why wasn’t he worthy of a visit from the feds? This country is well beyond fucked up.

The families’ statement went on to call the driver — a relative of Westfield police chief Christopher Battiloro — “a coward of a man, who had been plotting this attack against Maria for months, carried out this horrific act, taking not only her life but also Isabella’s.”
