People are a lot less close with their neighbours given they can get that companionship online. If you have a bad harvest (or more modernly lose your job) your neighbours aren’t likely to feed you/keep you in your home.

If you were a hunter-gatherer, probably the latter would be good enough, but that’s where originates the difference in future potential.
