Yes! It’s good they’re doing this. It would be better if they weren’t letting Nintendo brick homebrewed consoles.

Japan was the first one to prohibit tinkering with game saves and consoles, they aren’t going to revert it now.

If there’s one thing Japan loves, it is economical competition. There are like 40 different ways to pay at a shop, it’s absurd.

Innovation and competition at it’s peak: You get to choose the color of your noose.

But (presumably) no cash or crypto because someone has to take a 3% cut.

That’s probably because toxic corporate culture (we-ell, one can sometimes find contributions of heroes from Japan into FOSS projects, so maybe not so toxic, especially when you look at NetBSD) they already have, so they simply can’t afford breaking market laws, not in the slightest.

The rest think they can, which is wrong.

The economic stagnation in numbers is regrettable, though. I would prefer countries like Japan to grow (not on the map, I mean playing tall). And cultures.

This used to be the case 15 years ago, but unless you go to some tiny independently owned place, you can usually pay with credit card or suica. If not, then with one of those QR code payment options. I rarely carry cash anymore.

Yeah when I went over my bank statements for last year, I only went to an ATM a single time in the whole year. Mostly only need cash for stuff like parking

Idk, I wasn’t there myself. My friend went there multiple times though (last time before corona) and he said cash was often/usually needed.

How long ago was that? Even 7-8 years ago it was more true but it’s changed quite a bit in recent years

It’s about that time frame. He went there few times between 2012 and maybe 2020, or year before coronavirus.

That Q+ looking one near the bottom left is how Apple Pay came to be in Japan.

That’s hardly a bad thing unless you can’t use the most common way (e.g. paying by credit/debit card) in shops.

Is there some science to what facilitates common standards vs. dotzens of islands? Convenience of the user is only one factor (if at all), see printers.

Does that mean I can get a 3rd party eShop on my Nintendo Switch? 😆
