An unprecedented smear campaign against Ukraine is raging in Hungary. Prime Minister Viktor Orban wants his fellow citizens to vote against Ukraine's accession to the EU. What's behind it all?
All Hungarian citizens have until June 20 to vote on whether they are for or against Ukraine joining the EU.
That is a big misrepresentation of what this really is about. This is not a referendum, it’s basically a no-rules no-legal-consequences poll the government is doing.
FWIW the opposition who at this point has more support than the government party did the same, and their results show 60%+ for Ukraine joining, and a lot of people who said no were more like “only if they satisfy requirements we all had to”.
Hungary is not a country where everyone hates Ukrainians, it’s barely controversial and that’s because of a small loud minority.
