“May the injustices and humiliation suffered here as a result of hysteria, racism, and economic exploitation never emerge again.”
Hysteria, racism and economic exploitation might as well be the motto of the US.
It’s amazing this was never fixed. In Korematsu v United States, a Japanese-American citizen didn’t report to Manzanar concentration camp and was imprisoned. The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that it was legal to imprison citizens for national security reasons. That case still stands. And a similar executive order could be issued to do the same at any time, and Congress would be the only thing stopping it.
The order was based on the Alien Enemies and Sedition act of 1798, which was also already involved by Trump on this term.
I would love to be wrong, but I feel like more camps are in our future. CECOT is just the beginning.
Lessons were learned but they were the wrong lessons, which is why the concentration camps aren’t on American soil this time. And in the countries that house the victims, press freedoms are not the same as America. There is no obligation to let the press show the people.
dont let them know this is viewed as a bad thing else they will sign a order to have that plaque removed
I’ve been thinking about Manzanar so much lately. did an assignment on the subject in middle school and just remember thinking, “this was so long ago, so glad this won’t happen again.” I keep trying to stop being disappointed.
Even Germany is giving sexy eyes to the far-right. The US is the pinnacle of not learning and with the world situation being that, well, I’m gunna say no, you don’t ever learn.
At least in Canda we sorta did a decent job telling Conservatives to go fuck themselves but it was still WAY too close.
Not learning good is the thing where bestest four.
Didn’t even take a single human lifetime for us to get back to this shit again…
Alas, humans remain human.
I say, let the deer run things for a while.
