It’s amazing this was never fixed. In Korematsu v United States, a Japanese-American citizen didn’t report to Manzanar concentration camp and was imprisoned. The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that it was legal to imprison citizens for national security reasons. That case still stands. And a similar executive order could be issued to do the same at any time, and Congress would be the only thing stopping it.
The order was based on the Alien Enemies and Sedition act of 1798, which was also already involved by Trump on this term.
I would love to be wrong, but I feel like more camps are in our future. CECOT is just the beginning.
