First of all, they aren’t going to kill Wikipedia.

Second, Wikipedia isn’t even close to being the only place to get your history. There’s this neat little place called a fucking library. You can go there for free.

As of 2025, the English Wikipedia has 63,040,591 pages. The current text content in all its pages is about 156 GB in size. When counting all the revisions in histories, the size is 26,455 GB (26 TB).

I’m sure many people have already archived this at the least. Or snapshots, at a minimum. Not sure if that’s uncompressed, but if so, compression would save a shitload of that.

That’s uncompressed, the compressed archive is just over 102GB. And yes, you can download the entirety of Wikipedia as a single archive, and they tell you how on Wikipedia itself. The easiest way is probably Kiwix.

And not just the whole thing, either, you can download specific topics, or the top 100 articles, or the whole thing in simple English without pictures, etc.

I honestly don’t know, I’ve only downloaded the archive with the simple English articles and no pictures. that was only like 900mb or so. I imagine there’s some sort of image optimization that’s done on all images uploaded to the site. And when you think about it, most articles don’t actually have images with them. So the 102gb might be the whole thing.

I can say for sure that the archive does include at least some images, because it says it does. I do plan on downloading it at some point so I can make a local mirror of Wikipedia with my Raspberry Pi, but I haven’t bought a drive for it yet and don’t want to use one of the ones I have now for it because I have Ventoy and a bunch of ISOs on it.

trump can’t do shit as long as people keep fighting him. doesn’t matter how many people he throws in prison or lines up against the wall, we beat fascism to a bloody pulp once before and we’ll do it again. I’m sorry if you’re so depressed about what’s happening that you’ve lost your will to fight, but take a breather if you need to because the rest of us have your back and will take over while you get better.

wikipedia is gonna live a lot longer than trump will, and there will come a day very soon when we’re dancing in the streets while he’s being laid to rest in the cold, hard ground. and no amount of MAGA bullshit or pessimism from people who have given up is gonna change that future.

I think you misunderstood. The terminally ill cancer patient is getting urine salts from cancer free individuals. Nowhere on Wikipedia did anybody claim a benefit from the drinking of one’s own urine. Leave that to the alchemists.

Yeah, there’s no point in engaging with anything you just wrote, because you’re very clearly dedicated to whatever this wonderful and deep narrative is that you’ve crafted. But I will point out one thing you said that’s so very obviously wrong.

                    All of your ad hominems

I didn’t make any ad hominems. You see, almost every person who has ever cried that in an argument has had no idea what an ad hominem actually is. If I say “you’re wrong because you’re an Argonian, and you can’t be trusted”, that would be typical Imperial racism and also an ad hominem. But if I say “you’re wrong, because your arguments suck. and also, argonians have stinky fish breath”, that would be classical Imperial racism, but would not be an ad hominem. An ad hominem is an attempt to refute an argument by using a personal attack. It is not, as is commonly believed by internet keyboard warriors the world around, merely a personal attack.

Oh, and if you’re going to call someone a nazi, at least make it someone the average person would believe is a nazi. If I was anything of the sort, I personally know three admins of my instance who would not hesitate to ban me in an instant, and one or two of them could probably dox me if they wanted to.
