Was curious and looked around. There’s a website for this long rumored HMD

      https://isvalvedeckardout.com/

Technical specifications from leaked prototypes include dual 2160×2160 LCD panels operating at 120Hz, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processing, eye-tracking capabilities, and wireless PC VR streaming via Wi-Fi 6/6E, potentially utilizing a dedicated USB dongle.

Hopefully it’ll have a Snapdragon 8 Elite or 8 Elite gen 2. Will be interesting to see how all the work they’ve been doing with FEX-emu x86 to ARM translator performs at launch of a device

Not yet. There’s really only lots of speculation, as far as I’ve seen none of the leaks have any details on the actual hardware. It’s probably standalone with DP for hooking up to a PC. It might have the nice BOE 4k mOLED panels that are just hitting the market currently.

Honestly upset they’re making a standalone and not iterating on the index. Middle finger triggers are fine, but the index controllers are really next level in terms of immersion. The only issue is that the switches in the sticks suck ass and drift after a few hundred hours. Also I’ve had struggles with steam link on a quest 3, and I don’t enjoy introducing unnecessary latency with wireless connections, especially in vr where anything above an 11ms frametime is liable to make people motion sick.

If the headset is capable of running intensive games on its own then I’ll be slightly reassured.

Latency is not that big of a problem since it renders a larger area than what you see. When you turn your head it’s local.

Hopefully the new Valve controllers are backwards compatible, so you can use those if they are better.

I’m probably going to buy the deckard anyway and hope for the best simply because my index is in rough shape (and honestly valve has NEVER given me a reason to distrust them), but if the controllers are indeed compatible I will be pretty happy. Still mildly put off because the switches are still trash, but it’s nothing a t3 screwdriver and a steady hand can’t fix.

Also didn’t know about the rendering. That’s actually pretty nifty. I’ve still had what I guess are connection issues where I’ll get dumped into the loading void for a few seconds, and I’d much prefer a wired connection to avoid that.

Make sure your computer is on a wired connection to your router if you don’t have it like that. When I had my computer on wireless it often worked but it was a bit unstable. With the computer wired, it was solid. So when I play I roll out the long Ethernet cable.

I assume it’ll run Linux? That’s the thing I’m most excited for. The VR/AR enthusiast community will be able to contribute openly to the growth of AR/VR as a computing platform in a way that meta can’t bridle or control.

I find it hard to believe that valve is working on vr on linux based on the current state of steam vr on linux

I didn’t really want VR but like if it were a steamdeck compatible, wearable screen I’d love that. Free up my TV and not hurt my wrists.

That would be awesome if it came sooner. My original HTC Vive has been in storage for a while due to my living situation but I’ve recently got space again for a good VR setup. I looked around but don’t want to buy anything until the Deckard is out. I’d rather get something from Valve but the index is pretty old by this point.
