That was a practice that occurred right after the revolution when the economy was in shambles and hyperinflation was devastating the working class. Romania has progressed a lot since then, and such practices are no longer common place, but are outright illegal and extremely out of the ordinary.

Definitely. Sadly abortion was illegal for a very long time, so many people just had to give birth even if they weren’t ready to raise a kid.
