FYI you can download your audible audiobooks from the web interface and then get your “activation bytes” (same for every book from your account) and then use ffmpeg to convert them, effectively removing the DRM. Good luck 😎😉

maybe you can tag Teresa Ribera (the acting European Commissioner for Competition) on Mastodon about it, sometimes they reply with a class-action lawsuit against the corpo, for real

I never liked Audible, even before the whole boycott of US products started. It’s kind of a shitty deal for me. Storytel (Swedish) and Audioteka (Polish) are my go to audiobook service.

I don’t know why, but I can’t stand the compression Audible uses. It does not matter who the narrator is, I can hear the bass compression, which completely destroys the listening experience for me. Storytel has much better audio!

Any specific reason why Tolino? I am trying to get an ebook reader and was wondering where to move my library, just didnt do the research yet (did try self hosting these but it wasnt hassle free or it wasnt a smooth experience).

Edit: Just tried it on iOS - somewhat broken app as once you select your country (supports AT, DE, CH, and NL), you can’t change it to another one. Quite weird.

Some people like to actually support the authors and narrators and editors and publishers and translators etc. I’m not against piracy but it absolutely does hurt (especially small and independent) artists and authors.
