Welcome to the Vegan Theory Club Weekly Megathread!
Question of the week:
What are you doing for the holidays?
Feel free to talk about anything, whether it’s vegan-related or not. This is a chill space for connecting, sharing ideas, and supporting each other.
Looking forward to hearing what everyone’s up to!
Wife is visiting her parents. I’m doing Christmas with my family. Just a meal basically.
Last year I spent Christmas alone cleaning the house which was perfection this year I’m obligated to pretend to be a human.
Hopefully I’ll find time for some gardening
I actually went to a legit Christmas dinner for the first time this year but it was at least hosted by vegans. I got my first stocking, that was really cool because it was home made. I usually don’t do anything haha
We don’t celebrate holidays so there isn’t really anything out of the ordinary going on. We’re having dinner with my inlaws this week like normal, they just happen to have a plastic tree in their house for some reason lol.
Some kind of respiratory virus has been kicking our butts lately but I think things are improving. The tests for RSV/COVID/pneumonia all came back negative so the treatment is drinking lots of fluids, smoking lots of weed (weirdly this causes zero discomfort), and playing the new Pokemon game.
This week’s agenda is to get the last obstacles taken care of to get things growing again at home. I let most of my plants finish out in preparation for surgery and now it’s time to kick things back into high gear. There’s a fair bit of equipment to finish cleaning and move before finally starting some seeds again. Fingers crossed for a productive week!
Hope you feel better!
Thank you!
How’s the new Pokemon game? I am feeling nostalgic lately, and haven’t played since gold
Addictive as hell if pack opening and TCGs are up your alley. Addictive as hell if pokemon is something you’ve enjoyed in the past. Consider yourself warned lol.
They give you a couple weeks of their premium pass thing to start so the progress hasn’t felt limiting at all. I’ve kept strictly to the single player battling so far so I don’t have an opinion outside of that yet. So far the battles feel tuned pretty well. You can stumble your way to victory early on if you need time to learn but there are plenty of challenges too. Each battle has 4 win criteria that are optional challenges and I enjoy completing all of them. I have very little criticism after a couple days of playing.
But, it’s also a mobile game in 2024. There are a number of micro transaction opportunities in the shop and they definitely want you to spend money to get things faster. Nothing overly intrusive or annoying so far and everything gameplay related can be obtained from cash-free traditional means. There appear to be some protections in place to limit how much impact whales can have on the game as well.
There isn’t a way to directly trade cash for cards but there are ways to exchange resources that you buy with cash for items that reduce the cool down time on pack opening. TLDR it’s very difficult and expensive to try and brute force your way to a single card let alone a whole deck. Considering the format I don’t think it’s a bad compromise.
I like it enough that I spun up a community for it on WG.
I should probably stay away then, pokeclicker has made me vulnerable to Pokemon related dopamine saturation
Good luck!
🙏
I’m bought a bunch of switch games for my nephews and nieces who live pretty far away for Hanukkah which is the same day as Christmas this year. As is tradition I’m going to eat Chinese food and maybe go to a movie if something besides fucking Sonic is playing, otherwise I’ll watch Die Hard at home
Visiting sister later this week for two whole days! We’re doing like a potluck with our partners and I’m going to make daal on day one and then baked beans.
I’m excited to show my sister my cooking.
Sounds like great dishes to share!
Hope it went well!
It was a hit! The daal especially knocked people’s socks off. I actually kind of ruined it by putting too much water, but throw in some carrots and you’ve got a very fine daal-inspired lentil soup hehe.
My family is Indian so hearing them compare it to the cooking of elders really warmed my heart.
Drugs!
Also visiting family for one meal and then hibernating with the vape and Satisfactory until I have to go back to work.
Drugs!
Legit.
sounds like you had a more Satisfactory Christmas than ever
I have no idea what games like that do to my brain but holy fack it’s like, compulsive. I’m not even really relaxing either 😬
So today I just did drugs.
I’ll be honest the holidays for me at this point is just an excuse to watch movies and eat food lol
Yeah same, except I’m off from work
The extended family is visiting on Christmas day. We don’t really celebrate but the rest of the family does. I’ll need to put the tree up before they get here lol. I will have a chance to redeem myself by making sushi and not screwing it up again. Ps if anyone wants the recipe, we use this thai hippie recipe. Delicious!
Outside of that I’m working double shifts after Christmas for a few weeks so I’m just dreaming of not being a cog in this capitalist hellhole.
This reminds me I bought Sushi rice and forgot about it!
Oh! I’ve been doing pottery practice: https://imgur.com/a/1newQ7Z
Love seeing the progress!
@hamid i think we’re due for a new weekly thread. For the question how about new year resolutions or plans for the new year? Easy this week 😅
oh yeah! Thanks, I have been put out from covid lol. I’ll post it now
