I run a server https://calckey.world , which used to be CalcKey, but the software was re-branded to Firefish. Unfortunately, firefish.world is taken. What domain should I use for my new Firefish instance? Preferably a .world domain.
I have remembered these options suggested to me so far:
- dartfish.world (a sort of fish similar to the firefish)
- fedifish.world
- fire-fish.world
- f-fish.world
Any other suggestions? Or do you like one of the above?
fedifish.world sounds nice to me.
fedifish sounds so serious though, and having"fediverse" in every fediverse instance’s name is kinda boring
Fedifish sounds the best out of the given options I think.

Didyoufedthefish.world
feedthe.fish
TIL .fish is an actual TLD apparently
Too bad fire.fish is also gone…
maybe fish.fire is available?
edit: apparently .fire is reserved for Amazon
sushi.world 🍣
sushi.fish
Fedifish sounds good. Definitely don’t use fire-fish, that would just confuse everyone into thinking they’re the same instance.
Side note: I’m really glad they rebranded. Calckey was such a weird name.
Fedifish sounds the best from those
grilled.fish ?
Personally would avoid calling yourself what everything else is called. Yet another fire/fedi/fetid/fish. Show your imagination and call it mullet or something, at the very least.
I’m with this. Keep the
.world
TLD for continuity across your sites, but please, stop with the clichéd “fedi” stuff (that goes for anybody running an ActivityPub-based server!) and get imaginative on the rest. Fire fish? Flaming Mullet. Grilled Salmon. Go wild along that theme! Or give it a name that reflects the desired content. Or …
Do you have a reason to stick with the .world TLD?
Something like ruuds.world (“Ruud’s world”), or is that to corny? Or perhaps ruudscoffee.house, ruuds.pub or something like that?
Anyway, I suggest staying away from mentioning the software by name in the url given the cons (a hypothetical second rebrand, for example).

fieryfish.world seems to be available.
Something that hasn’t the word Fish in the name.
