You jest, but back then this was an actual debate. For most people it was obvious but some doubted it.

Darth Vader was actually originally a separate character from Anakin, and his name was just “Darth Vader”. That’s why Obi-Wan addresses him as “Darth”, whereas after that it’s a title, not a name, as Lucas retconned a bit to have a grand plan.

So when he was named Vader, he wasn’t even Luke’s father, so…

No one working on the first movie was even sure it would do well. Lucas may have had some plans in his mind for a bigger story, but at the time he was trying to get the initial movie made. I don’t even know if there’s evidence he had a huge franchise planned out with all the plots, but of course he’d claim he did once it took off.

As the other comments will tell you, I’m mistaken on the language

It’s just something I heard before the internet. It could be total baloney

Yup, I remember one guy replied to me once on a forum adamant that Palpatine wasn’t going to become the Emperor. It stick in my mind because it was so much “WHAT?” How do you not… WHAT?

And then they deny that the Emperor’s name in novels and radio plays is canonical.

    Seems a bit far-fetched.

I mean Palpatine is a well-respected politician. Their kind wouldn’t lie. He has said himself that his side are the good guys, what more proof do you want?

When I first watched RotS I thought that Sidious was only disguised as Palpatine (as in kill-and-replace) and the electrocution had just destroyed the disguise.

At what point did you think he was replaced?

I always thought the Clone Wars should’ve involved people getting replaced by cloned versions of them or something like that. But nope, the clones were just storm troopers. Oh well…

Darth Sidious and Vadar were played by completely different actors. Your theory has plot holes.
