Republican donors – including those who had said they’d never support Trump again after Jan. 6 — believe the current regulatory climate for businesses is also an existential danger. Kathy Wylde, president and CEO of the Partnership for New York City — a nonprofit organization representing the city’s top business leaders — said Republicans have conveyed to her that they consider that “the threat to capitalism from the Democrats is more concerning than the threat to democracy from Trump.”

Wait, the threat to capitalism from the modern Democratic Party, which is a bunch of weak-kneed neoliberal do-nothings, is worse than the threat of fascism from a guy who said he’s willing to use the power of the state to punish enemies?

Ask the Russian oligarchs that fell down stairs, out of windows, ran into mysterious rains of bullets and/or drank radioactive tea how they feel about selling out democracy for profit.

Oh wait, you can’t ask them.

I asked all the oligarchs and every last one of them said “gee, this is such a beautiful day to sit near a window, run near stairs, sunbathe under armories, or consume accidental poisons. Ah yes, so lovely– OH NO, COMPLETELY ON ACCIDENT THIS HORRIBLE CONSEQUENCE IS HAPPENING PURELY BECAUSE OF MY OWN ACTIONS AND I LOVE THE GOVERNMENT!!!”

You know the term “peak oil?”

It’s like that, but with capitalism. And when you get here, the only way to make it keep moving is blood, blood, and more blood.

That’s because their personal concern about democracy is zero. Zero concern. They have money and power, they don’t need democracy. The threat that the store down the road will be closed when they want to buy tic-tacs is more concerning to them than Trump’s threat to democracy.

They have money and power, they don’t need democracy.

That’s somewhat shortsighted, as the money is heavily predicated on a functioning economy and the power is heavily predicated on a functioning industry. Countries without democracy have historically lagged in both categories, with the client states of large industrial democratic states being the primary exception.

And then, when the country is embroiled in a profit-conflagarating civil war, and they personally know people who died in the fighting and they have no idea what they’re even going to do, and they have to flee the country and set up in someplace that’s still stable, costing them astronomically more than it would have just to deal with the emissions regulations or whatever, it won’t be their fault.

It never is. It’ll be someone else who created the problem.

Republicans have conveyed to her that they consider that “the threat to capitalism from the Democrats is more concerning than the threat to democracy from Trump.”

Does he mean the threat of booming stock market highs practically every day? Or the threat that unemployment will be too low? How come these people are so out of touch with reality?

Democrats support a freer market than Republicans do, since Republicans want a government that can&will punish businesses for disagreeing with them politically.

Republican business people really don’t want a free market. They hate that Biden’s gone after them for being noncompetitive. That’s what they perceive as the threat

I honestly don’t understand how this is supposed to appease the average Trump voter.

Like, I get being completely ignorant about politics and the world around you…but how the hell does the average American not look around at their income and expenses and realize that capitalism is fucking them in the ass at every conceivable opportunity.

Oh, cool, you got a cellphone and a quarter-acre a quarter mile as the crow flies from the mall (5 miles by foot or car though). How’s your student loans doing? When’s the last time you had a colonoscopy/mammogram, and why are you putting it off for so long? How’s the weather? How are the caterpillars? Why haven’t you had kids yet?
