Probably something about societal pressures releasing (or forcing) the unmooring of norms (in this case, of ideology) and thus shifting trans folk towards non-standard ideologies. Or, if one prefers, releasing them from the influence of our society instilling the ideology of liberal democracy, since that is the mainstream of all political mainstreams in the West.
