    You can tell it’s a dead mall because it’s tilted. Functioning ships and stations are always coplanar with the galactic plane.

      Do you think Starfleet pilots ever get into debates about which side of the milky way is the top, and which side is the bottom?

      Are there rebels that disagree with the consensus and fly around “upside-down”?

            I’m sure sensors can pick that up within seconds, ST sensors even faster. Especially since you don’t need the rotation, but just the alignment of known points around the galaxy

        There’s probably an arbitrary standard just like with the globe. There’s is a galactic north, after all.
