  • First, I love the energy. To your last question, if you can get into the right industries, then you can absolutely push forward solarpunk ideals. However, in many cases it entirely depends on where the funding is coming from.

I’ve been an ML engineer for a long time. If you work in a company or organization at an entry level, it’s not really up to you how much the work will contribute to any specific ideals you have. However as you gain more experience, make connections, and yield more power overall, you can shape projects or entire portfolios towards solarpunk, assuming that fits within the constraints and meets requirements. The high level work shaping step usually takes many years and lots of experience to reach though.

I’d recommend specializing in some engineering discipline with some applications in mind, as that’ll give you much more direct experience and make it more likely you’ll get hired by a company/organization that does “solarpunk” research and development (R&D), and testing and evaluation (T&E). I’m assuming solarpunk tech = any kind of renewable energy or environmental improvement capabilities.

But many, many people across reddit, lemmy, twitter, bluesky, etc. are pushing this narrative. So I’m assuming “you” to be anyone pushing the idea, which is why I asked.

It seems plausible to someone who has no idea about groyper culture, but could also just as likely be bullshit from people that don’t want to accept he was an anti-fascist, leftwing guy (despite his familial background, many people turn out the opposite of their family).

  • Obviously everyone in the country should be scared and sad about where the country has headed in the last decade. MAGA is both a symptom but also an accelerant, and is the natural evolution of late stage capitalism. Until the real root issues are fixed, nothing will actually change it. Stochastic terrorism will get worse, the divide will get worse, the hollowing out of institutions will get worse. Until the common people can turn off Newsmax, Fox, and Tiktok long enough to have a single rational thought of their own, nothing will change for the better.

The elite are dividing the country through those media sources, so that they spend all their time chasing bullshit like LGBT or immigrants, when the real problem is corporate greed and the ultra-wealthy (influenced by Yarvin/Thiel aspirations) seeking to further dismantle society for their own personal gain.
