Wasn’t really static IP, but upload caps and bandwidth limits. And “updated Terms of Service.” To your point, they started charging for static IPs or just not offering them for “home” service. In the early days (feeling old yet), self hosting wasn’t shut down so much as shared hosting from home. People were running shared web and email hosts from home and ISPs didn’t like that added cost and competition, mostly cost. Bandwidth was expensive going over copper exchanges.

Isn’t this how fight clubs start? Maybe rent the basement of the church, invite some “friends” not to talk about it?

Seriously though, meditation/mindfulness can help a bit. Practicing incorporating and accepting the constant overstimulation.

Ifixit has been a community driven repair site for over 20 years. It was indispensable for repairing apple laptops when they were still transitioning to Intel from PowerPC. I haven’t kept up with all the changes, but they sell tools and parts now. Even from a jaded perspective one can see the right to repair is in their best interest.

To me it’s starting to sound more like bad labeling or awareness campaign. It makes some sense if it’s “carpools are allowed to use the bus lane”, not so much when it’s “here is a lane to make it easier to carpool”.
