As part of the latest package of sanctions against Russia over its invasion of Ukraine, the European Union may further tighten visa issuance for Russians and introduce restrictions for Russian diplomats, the Italian news agency ANSA has learned.

The European Union is studying the possibility of further restricting the issuance of tourist visas to Russian citizens, the Italian news agency ANSA reported on Tuesday, September 9, citing sources . This possibility is being considered by the European Commission as part of the 19th package of EU sanctions against Russia for its invasion of Ukraine .

As ANSA writes, this issue was raised in light of the large number of Russians entering the EU this summer. In addition, the European Commission may introduce restrictions for Russian diplomats. No details were given on how exactly the visa issuance process will be tightened.

The EU wants to restrict the movement of Russian diplomats
In late August, Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky called on the EU to ban free movement of Russian diplomats in the Schengen zone as part of “a measure to weaken Russia’s capabilities.” “We are giving the Russian regime an unjustified advantage, and it is being used to facilitate subversive operations,” Lipavsky told Politico . Poland has made a similar proposal, ANSA now reports.

In September 2022, the EU suspended the simplified visa regime with Russia, which increased the visa fee from 35 to 90 euros and made applications take longer to process. Some European countries, including Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and the Czech Republic, stopped issuing tourist visas to Russian citizens altogether.

EU discusses energy sanctions against Russia
The 19th package of restrictions is planned to be adopted as early as September of this year . According to four sources of Politico among European diplomats, it is not expected to include new serious restrictions on the sale of Russian energy resources. The Bloomberg agency, citing sources, claims that the EU countries may impose restrictions on six banks and energy companies, including tougher sanctions against Rosneft and Lukoil .

The 18th package of sanctions already banned the import of petroleum products made from Russian crude oil from third countries except Canada, Norway, Switzerland, the UK and the US. Sanctions were imposed on 105 tankers of Russia’s " shadow fleet ". In addition, the EU decided to lower the price ceiling for Russian oil from $60 to $47.6 per barrel.

I was getting my haircut and FOX was on the TV when I found out he died from the shooting. Barbershop is Vietnamese owned and the barber was busy on his phone when I get there. I’ve been there many times without FOX on the TV and hope they just put a random news channel on.

Fox was showing the reaction from various congress-critters and they got to AOC. AOC’s message was this another example of we we need some gun control in a much better way than I am relaying. When FOX went back to the host he immediately said she was wrong. HIPAA laws should be relaxed so problematic people could be found before they commit crimes.

  • i just realized I am logged into different instances on my phone and desktop.

The US and Israel commit daily 9/11s in Gaza/Lebanon/Yemen/Iran/etc.

I agree and find this upsetting as well.

You should be upset about 9/11, you should understand the motivations of those who perpetrated it, you should be upset about the root cause, and you should be disgusted that your country continues to level civilian buildings while casually celebrating it on group chat.

I understand the motivations. I am disgusted by US indiscriminate killing in foreign countries.

You should get over the idea that 9/11 was so uniquely evil, it’s the one time the American empire felt a fraction of the evil it puts out into the world.

Never said 9/11 was unique. I said 9/11 sticks in my head because it was one of the few times “I was scared for my life.” I was scared and could do nothing which is the desired effect of a terrorist act.

Would you have been this upset if Biden suggested the federal government is taking the responsibility to fund the memorial? Would you have opposed ensuring the long term maintenance of it and eliminating the risk of financial issues in the long term?

    No

Have you heard their proposal, or you’re rejecting it only because it’s GOP? You know a lot of republicans live in NY and a lot of them died on 9/11, right? You know nearly 3.5 million New Yorkers voted for Trump, right?

I have not heard the proposal but based upon things that have happened during Trump’s second term the proposal will not match reality. Also, I over-generalized NYC’s hatred of Trump. I’m sure he did well in Staten Island.

If there’s one thing the federal government knows how to fund and maintain, it’s war propaganda monuments. Just look at DC, and look at how actual veterans are left to rot homeless and broke while the monuments to honor them are ludicrously grand and luxurious
