Mechanismatic@lemmy.worldto 3DPrinting@lemmy.world•3D printing sites should require a printed model when uploading a design.English1·5 天前The website would have to verify the lack of a print photo. I’m guessing at this point it would probably be some AI image recognition filter so they don’t need to have humans verify all the uploads manually.
Mechanismatic@lemmy.worldto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Let us celebrate our mutual experience of close proximity by touching our multi-fingered appendages to one another's - Person who invented the handshake, probably.English5·6 天前I would guess someone invented the handshake in prehistoric times and we just have no medium in which a record could exist aside from an undiscovered cave drawing or something like that. Humans seem to naturally touch hands outside of any social influence or cultural history. Babies reach out and people touch their hands. It seems like a pretty intuitive human action. We touch things with our hands, so other hands seems natural as a thing to touch. The shake just seems like a minor variation on that.

Yeah, the crows at my work know I always have treats on me.
Mechanismatic@lemmy.worldto Recommendations@lemmy.world•Back after a year and a half to say don't make the same mistake as meEnglish4·12 天前But the $500 headset was endorsed by that famous person with that hit song from 20 years ago, so surely it’s been vetted for the highest quality manufacturing standards!
Mechanismatic@lemmy.worldto Recommendations@lemmy.world•Back after a year and a half to say don't make the same mistake as meEnglish61·12 天前The odd thing is that when you get a little more money and you start spending the 50 dollars on the nice boots, you learn that there’s an assumption about quality built into the price. Sometimes the 50 dollar boots are 20 dollar boots with a fancy brand name. Or they used to be high quality, but the brand got bought out by venture capital and manufacturing moved to another country and the quality of the materials used in the process changed.
Mechanismatic@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is there a word for the happiness in finding the exact right word?English61·12 天前You can coin a neologism if you can’t find an existing word.
onomato- is a prefix that is often used to mean word or name felic- is a prefix that means happy ortho- can mean correct, but also straight
So maybe orthonomatofelicity?
Probably too long.
Maybe just onomatofelicity?
There are other roots you can find with similar meanings to mix up your own neologism.
Mechanismatic@lemmy.worldto 3D Printing@lemmy.ml•K1 to Prusa Core One w/ MMU3, worth it?English2·19 天前I’m waiting to get the new MMU for the CORE One when Printed Solid has them domestically in the US. I talked to a rep from Printed Solid and he said they should have them soon, but Prusa will always sell their stock first and then supply Printed Solid in the US later.
Mechanismatic@lemmy.worldto 3D Printing@lemmy.ml•K1 to Prusa Core One w/ MMU3, worth it?English2·19 天前I don’t have the MMU for the CORE One, but the CORE One by itself is good. I haven’t had any issues so far aside from very flexible TPU (85A and softer) not loading or printing easily. I also have the buddycam and uploading models and printing and monitoring remotely is pretty easy.

And make sure to watch a video or at least look at a picture of what is an appropriate amount of thermal paste to apply. I know people who assume the entire container is meant to be applied and they had to take it apart and wipe some off.
Mechanismatic@lemmy.worldto RetroGaming@lemmy.world•Renovation was right—and we're ahead of scheduleEnglish31·2 个月前NES and SNES were much more ubiquitous and often the exclusive consoles for a lot of games, so Sega was coming up with it’s own line of games that weren’t as likely to enter collective memory or later have movies made out of them.
In case anyone else was wondering:
“Earth orbits around the sun at a speed of 67,100 miles per hour (30 kilometers per second).”
So 9000 kilometers away in 5 minutes.
But then the milky way spins at around 200-250 km/s, so there’s that displacement also.
If a time machine only travels through time and not space, would parts of the time machine travel through time at miniscule differences such that the power source is hundreds of kilometers away from the controls and thus the machine wouldn’t work beyond the initial activation?
