disevani@lemmy.worldto Android@lemmy.world•Looking for a 2025 recommendation for a phone with a headphone jackEnglish3·17 days agoHonestly, i’m not sure. But it seems that (some) Sony phones supported that natively in the past, so it could be.
I would check some Sony related communities if i were you. If i see something regarding this, i will let you know!
disevani@lemmy.worldto Android@lemmy.world•Looking for a 2025 recommendation for a phone with a headphone jackEnglish251·17 days agoI think Sony allows the bootloader to be unlocked, so i would go for the new Xperia 10 vii and just put a beefy case on it to be honest. Not only does it have the 3,5mm jack, but also SD card slot, no stupid punchhole/camera cutout, has a good battery, is a ‘normal’ size (6.1"). If i didn’t went with the Fairphone 6, i’d go for that one.
Those rugged phones are falling short in many ways, and most of them are pricey too. And Motorola isn’t what they used to be, sadly.
disevani@lemmy.worldto Android@lemmy.world•Those of you who install non-google-play apps (aka: sideloading), what's your gameplan for the upcoming Google restrictions on Sideloading?English13·1 month agoFor now… Google is developing AOSP more and more behind closed doors, which is more troubling for other Android based OS’s. So even if e/OS is not (much) effected by this ‘sideloading’ thing, other choices Google makes will destroy something at some point.
If Google is going to build this “sideload protection” in the core of Android, this is going to be very bad, even for e/OS.
Fuck Google.
Thanks!
Sadly, more and more apps are starting to use the Google Integrity API. This API checks if you’re using a “safe” OS, so you probably can figure out yourself what this means… Super annoying. It is going to be: live with it, or go to alternatives.
My bank app still works, but recently there was some news they also are adding the API. If it stops working, i will either leave them, or just use another device or simply use the browser.
As for Android Auto, there is not much advice i can give. I have no need for it myself.
Is the software buggy? I did not like the Fairphone 5 mainly because of how buggy the Google Android version was… I had random reboots and freezes, framerate issues, UI elements that glitched or didn’t fit the screen properly. Hope they were able to fix that by now.
I too have the Gen 6, but i choose the e/OS version. Great phone so far.

This picture is taken with the Nikkor 24/1.7 lens, not the standard lens kit. I pretty much almost always use this one. Only when i want to make pictures of landscapes/big open ereas, or want to have the wide-lens effect, i grab the standard lens kit. The one that came with the Z30 (lens kit) was the 12-28mm F/3.5-5.6 PZ VR.
The camera, extra battery, lens kit and prime lens all fit perfectly in a tiny bag, which makes a perfect travel buddy!

They are fun to watch, especially because there are so many of them around here now.
I thought “Murena” would be sufficient but you’re right, mentioning e/OS explicity would’ve been a good thing to do. I will add it to the title! I’m sorry for the confusion it caused.
Glad you like it too!
As for step counters, i personally use a Garmin Instinct 2 Solar (watch). I’m able to use Garmin’s software and that work as intented with my watch. A watch is not for everyone, but it might be worth it to look into some sort of sport/smart watch. As for a standalone app that counts, i really don’t have any suggestions for you. You might like something like Geo Tracker though. It doesn’t count steps (i think), but you can record where you walked, how far you walked and how fast you walked, etc.
disevani@lemmy.worldto Android@lemmy.world•Stop Android from suggesting Live WallpapersEnglish17·2 months agoThat must be Xiaomi’s fault… Android does not do such thing. Check the running processes in Developer Settings to see what’s running that could cause this. After located, disable/uninstall them, with ADB if needed.
Live wallpapers are often a form of ads. Like Motorola have Live Lockscreen, made and owned by Taboola… This is why you should skip bloated Android devices, unless you use a custom rom or don’t mind the extreme debloating.
It has a main camera, wide lens and a time-of-flight sensor (ToF), the last one helps recognize objects, specifically helpfull for AI and AR.
It is also the only bump that can’t be repaired without changing the whole topunit.
Fairphone 3: 158 x 71.8 x 9.9 mm (6.22 x 2.83 x 0.39 in)
Fairphone 6: 156.5 x 73.3 x 9.6 mm (6.16 x 2.89 x 0.38 in)
They are actually a lot closer in size than i thought. The case is not super thin so this will add quite some to the overall size… I think the size difference is not going to be a big problem. Unless you’re going to buy some back customizations from Fairphone, i would recommend getting another case once they are available. It works fine, but it just feel weird with the standard back…
You can turn off the fingerprint yes. There’s also this setting:
This helps for accidental unlocks, but i also like to unlock everything at the same time.
As for the screenshot shortcut, i don’t see a way to turn that off.
The closest thing you’ve got to a firewall is the Advanced Privacy. Tapping the “more permissions” setting just sends you to Android’s standard permission manager. Here’s what it looks like:
I hope Murena will work out for you! I’m really enjoying it so far
App and OS developers need to go hand in hand here, i believe. So, also support app(store) developers, because without them, any good deGoogled OS / Linux will still be worthless.
I think the best way to invest for the long run is to start using any OS without any Google API on it (so, completely Google free, not even use spoofservices such as MicroG) and use alternatives for the stuff you use now. Then, when you find software you like, simply start donating / supporting them.
