  • Hi Boby. I am still stuck on a phone for internet and very limited in what I can do. As you know, I put together the annual PD archive report. Fandom, Reddit, Dominowood, Zay, your own work, and even Lemmy, should all have their information available in a single archive. Dumping and storing all that information isn’t difficult, but creating a user interactive WIKI/BLOG/etc would be very time consuming. If it would help, I can donate the individual HTML reports on the 500+ PD’s that I compile into the PDF.

  • ApkMirror does just that, they downloaded from Playstore and mirror apps.

Others, such as F-Droid, will only share apps with open source code that they can examine and compile.

As to what’s safe or not is a frustrating question as it has no appropriate answer. It’s like asking, how safe is Russian Roulette? You have a 5 in 6 chance you will win. Is it safe? Air-bags in cars break the neck 60% of the times they deploy. Are they safe? Does having a gun make you safe? Some of the worst malware ever invented is released by Playstore. Have all the locks and all the security ever truly made anything safe? You want safe, unplug and find a deep hole to live in, and hope it is safe enough not to cave in.

    Safety is an illusion.

  • I compiled it and played just enough to get the idea and ensure the code worked. I found it was easier to click on a spot rather than move to it. If you have ever played Hyperrogue or similar hex based games, the movement is the same and just takes time to get accustomed to it. I’m not sure what can be done about the map issues to “smooth” out the edges as it were. I think the mod would have to be built from the ground up to accomplish that, or, an additional sweep would need to be done to mask it. Again, I’m not the DEV of this mod, I merely found it and thought it worth mentioning.

The DEV includes his contacts on his Git site.

  • Understood. No bad feelings.

FYI, I purchased a copy, $0.49 now, which is itself very suspecious.

I decompiled and examined. It appears to be your SPD v2.5.4 with only 2 changes. The package has been renamed to com.pixel.dungeon and the icon has been changed. Otherwise, it doesn’t appear altered.

Actually, this pisses me off. If it had a significant mod at least it might have been worth something. Too, that is money being stolen away from 00-Evan. Anyhow, I’m letting this drop. I’ll note it in the releases report I do and hope Google burries it.

  • Whenever I compile a PD, I do all my work in a Virtual Machine and keep all data used.

VMware recently made VM software free for personal use.

I don’t compile apps with intent to release them through Playstore.

It would be extra work to maintain a 4x build, but it could be done if the libraries were stored in an offline VM.

Perhaps someone else would be willing to work with you on maintaining the project.

I just hate to think that Google can force millions of users to have to buy new devices just to keep updating the game.
