I was looking at it around the beginning of this year, so it would have been with Sepia. And if you search something simple like ‘sewing’ or ‘movies’ you shouldn’t get topics such as modern politics as your top results. That’s not just out of left field, that is a whole different ballpark. If I did a search for ‘sewing’ and got embroidery results…ok. Same game, just different position. Makes a bit more sense. You’re still stitchin’.

Also, using something like ‘literature’ shouldn’t get you the same top results as ‘sewing’ does.

Hi! One day I want to move from YouTube to PeerTube (in the process of getting some things done before I do) and when I was trying to explore it, one thing that frustrated me was trying to search for anything on the platform.

I tried to do a searches for random topics and the top search results instances/servers that had nothing to do with what I was looking for.

This frustration was also echoed by somebody with experience on the platform that I ended up talking with. They were able to direct me to the specific instances I’d want because they’re a part of them too, but it shouldn’t be so difficult to find what you want, so my question is are you trying to fix the search engine on your platform to make it more user friendly so that most of your platform isn’t seemingly word of mouth (so to speak)?

That is so common with this type of thing. So frustrating.

Some people just ‘speak like that’ using hyperbolic examples. So correcting them on using the word ‘exaggeration’ when they used a form of exaggeration is being the grammar police when nobody called for you. There’s nothing wrong with using the word ‘hyperbole’, but there’s nothing wrong with the word they used either.

Omg, yes about Forrest Gump! That story is as feel good/uplifting as news stories about people living in a city that left potholes unfilled for so long that a literal child starts risking their safety and filling in the ones in their community and then the mayor commends them on doing the thing that the city should have done… (Yes, it’s a real story, and yes, the news tried to make it sound like a heart-warming tale.)

I said it above and I’ll say it again…a Nero situation might just happen at the next Olympics and it wouldn’t surprise me in the least.

This was all with one flatmate…

I bought bison burgers (expensive…a pack of 8 was $20 CAD at the time) and then actually replaced it…with beef burgers that were $15 for a pack of 20. Not the same thing on a nutritional level (I had to watch my fat intake due to lingering issues after gallbladder removal and was dealing with B12 issues - bison is lower in fat and higher in iron and B12 than beef). His reasoning was that he had seen me eat burgers before, so that should be fine.

When I was making cookies for people at work like I did every year for the holidays, he came into the kitchen and was like, ‘That looks good.’ and went to grab one from the cooling rack. (They are good. People raved about these cookies.) I told him I’d hurt him if he touched them because it was for gifts for other people. I ended up getting a mini-fridge with a freezer for my room so I could have some food he wouldn’t touch. Although one Thanksgiving I had people over and the food wouldn’t fit in my mini, so I had to label everything saying that it was for my upcoming guests and if he touched it there would be trouble.

His girlfriends (that I never saw - they always came in and left when I was either asleep or out and I spent a lot of time in my room anyway) would use up all my pads. I went to grab one from a pack that I bought the month before and there were one or two left. They also would use my shampoo and steal my hair clips. (I know the hair clips are a small thing, but when you have a lot of hair and need the bigger ones to contain it all the cost of replacing them adds up over time.) I ended up changing to using a cup instead of pads so they couldn’t just take things and kept all of my toiletries in my room. I also switched to the ‘no shampoo’ method of hair (which actually worked better for my hair) so they couldn’t just take my shampoo and conditioner.

He also never bought TP or anything like that, I was the one always supplying that stuff, so that also ended up hidden in my room and he had to get his own. It would have been one thing if he had bought it too for the both of us to use, but he didn’t so he was on his own for that.

The final straw came when he was out of town and the police came knocking at the door asking about his girlfriends and if any of them were younger. I had seen shoes of people I didn’t know at the door, but I legit never saw them, so I couldn’t say what they’re ages were. I started looking for a new place that day.

Probably what happens when we read anything from history nowadays.

I once applied for a government position. Entry level admin. I had been working admin for 7+yrs plus various volunteer positions since I was 18.

It was about 2hrs to fill out the form and answer all their questions.

I didn’t hear anything back after a couple of weeks and was like, ‘Ok. I should have heard back by now, I didn’t get picked for an interview, whatever.’

ONE YEAR LATER I got an e-mail telling me that they weren’t going ahead with my application.

If it’s been a year and you’re reaching out then it had better say that a new position has opened up and would like to talk to me about it, not ‘We’re going ahead with other candidates.’ Also, if that’s when you’re getting an answer then it kinda looks like, ‘We finally saw your application.’ The slow turning wheels of bureaucracy…

It’s fuckin’ ridiculous.
