They don’t care about Taiwan. That’s the state department propaganda they’re trained to parrot. Imperial America wants that chip technology. Soon as they can steal that chip tech by bringing production to America then Taiwan is fucked.

I suspect the amount fucks anyone gives about Taiwan is worse than the electoral support for the current regime. Definitely not the 1/3rd who voted for it. 1/3rd non-voters don’t give a fuck on account of their ignorance to everything. A good portion of Democrat voters don’t care given that even Dems have been pushing for appropriating TSMCs manufacturing secrets.

It’s worse. It’s state controlled media. Cancel Culture is about the population shunning individuals they dislike. In this instance it’s authoritarian government.

The following doesn’t apply to everybody in technology, but it applies to enough of them: At some point STEM education was the only thing the Olds cared about because of something something Asia, and now we have a couple of generations that are highly educated on paper and comically unaware of the complexity of the world outside of WordPress plugins.

Once again even on lemmy like every other social media, the point is not that anyone else has made up their mind on who he is. It’s the right leading the charge on this. It’s not behind the scenes when the most popular subreddits were such things as “c*ntown”. It didn’t get better or worse. It’s always been a nazi shithole. Those weren’t the dark cornerse of the site it was the top results on Google back when it was a thing to show it. Those subreddit could regularly be seen on r/all.

This meta is what I’m talking about. People talking like none of that existed or it was too obscure for anyone to have known.

Reddit is ground zero for the whole umbrella of far right incels. What you talking about stretch. I’m so tired people being too timid to call it what it is.

I honestly can’t tell if people are being disingenuous when they say they’re shocked that reddit was any of that at all. I know the far right disavow it completely but of course those guys are bullshitters. They drive propaganda 24/7.

What’s the excuse for those are in earnest about it. Were people really that siloed such that they completely missed pretty much the entirety of what reddit is?

I saw a comment a while ago that called it myth making. It stuck with me for some reason. They don’t have a reality. They have right wing mythos.

What’s astounding to me is how innate that is. How can one process stimulus and information. Then filter it through a second layer of myth crafting.

At least to me reality is what reality is. I don’t take in information and then think how can I gymnastic this into my mythology. How is anyone even like that??? The right seems to do it reflexively.

Yeah it was a useless metric anyways. What I’ve found is that people use that number to as evidence to some rhetoric. Pretty much every time I point out it’s a useless metric they become very angry.

SSDs are fast enough as swap to be imperceptible to the untrained eye. A good test is to disable swap for a while. You can bet they will see their system grind its gears at some point.

Operating systems are designed with the assumption that swap will be used. 32GB is roughly the waterline where you can forgo it all together while avoiding consequenecs of the code freaking out when it needs it and doesn’t have any.

Wiith how often either someone I know or some random user is like, here watch this. And it’s anywhere from 15-60 minute video. How many hours day do you think I have. Just sum up what you’re trying to show me in a few sentences.

Same goes with podcasts. I’m sure we’re past peak podcasting too. Everyone and their dog has a podcast. 99% of them are private conversations that have no reason for existing as podcasts. People are recording a random conversation about nothing and calling it a podcast episode. Just stop.

I don’t even watch so many hours of TV shows. I have maybe two or three shows I’ll be watching at any given time. That’s like a few hours a week. The algorithmic content pushing has lost the plot. They expect us to be robotic content consuming machines 24 hours a day, seven days week. I have to eat and shit and earn a living so I can continue to sustain my physical existence so I can consume content. I suppose this is the natural end goal of adtech companies like Google. A tireless soulless machine that devours humanity.

Much of the content has become useless fluff. A good chunk of Youtube videos and podcasts are just friends bantering or cackling over inside jokes. Like why am I listening to this noise being blasted from my headphone to my ears. I’m over it.

I think it’s the original generation of reddit libertarian conservatives using the sub as controlled oppositon. That place used to be a Ron Paul circle jerk. They don’t necessarily like all of Trumpism but they recognize they’re more aligned than with liberals. At most they’re establishment Democrats but I think they’re no farther left than center right.

I disagree. Google has always been a thinly veiled Microsoft. A wolf in sheeps clothing. They embrace, extend, extinguish. It’s the same thing.
