George Snorewell@lemmygrad.mlOPto The Deprogram Podcast@lemmygrad.ml•Has anyone here tried out Means Tv? What did you think?English7·13 days agoDamn fair enough. I mean a lot of the stuff on there looks pretty high quality like documentaries and stuff. I assume there’s already a substantial amount of content to binge already since it’s been out for a while? I was thinking of subscribing but like there’s also not many creators on there I’ve heard of besides the deprogram boys. Do you have any recommendations? And also is it all like political content or is there like more entertainment focused stuff as well?
George Snorewell@lemmygrad.mlto The Deprogram Podcast@lemmygrad.ml•The entire right, center, and the libertarian left (anarkiddies) have united to celebrate the Ban of r/TheDeprogram because they hate tankies.English27·17 days agoDon’t you know the ukrainian communist party did a genocide against the ukranians just for being ukrainian? There was nothing else going on during this period. There were no external factors to speak of. Lack of industrial equipment, underdeveloped communication lines, crop failures, Kulak terrorism, western gold and oil embargo, all woke leftist conspiracies. Don’t look at export data from the time either, that’s woke lies as well.
George Snorewell@lemmygrad.mlto Palestine@lemmygrad.ml•UN General Assembly backs New York declaration on two-state solution, Palestine welcomes voteEnglish13·17 days agoI mean all this “two state solution” and recognition of a (highly conditional) Palestinian “State” is purely symbolic virtue signalling. What is left of these “Palestinian Territories” that could even constitute a state? Like a number of enclaves and gaza?
No. The only realistic solution is a one state solution. Right of return, equal rights, secularity; this is the bare minimum for a peaceful resolution. There is no need for the removal of all the current occupiers, I assume most would flee with their tails between their legs, much like in South Africa. Though unlike south Africa, genuine and tangible reparations should be a part of this as well. It’s not as though pulling the knife out stops the bleeding. South Africa dismantled apartheid, but kept the established ruling class of white settlers.
Ideally, a socialist state would be best, but the above would be a bare minimum for any world leader genuinely seeking a long-lasting piece. Although obviously, most US-aligned governments are not in any genuine capacity seeking any such long lasting piece. They just want to virtue signal because supporting genocide is a PR disaster.

George Snorewell@lemmygrad.mlOPto The Deprogram Podcast@lemmygrad.ml•Is there a way I can make lemmygrad look like "new reddit"?English4·17 days agoI might check that out, but I’m using blorp rn and it’s pretty much what I wanted. Just switch it to “left hand mode” and it’s practically the same as the “new reddit” style
George Snorewell@lemmygrad.mlOPto The Deprogram Podcast@lemmygrad.ml•Oh the humanity!English4·17 days agoSorry I said bullet meant casing. You could seldom fit even a couple letters on actual the bullet itself haha. But yeah it’s probably too many words to fit on a 50 cal casing, but definitely too many for a .30-06. I looked it up and it’s like the size of my pinky or ring finger.

George Snorewell@lemmygrad.mlOPto The Deprogram Podcast@lemmygrad.ml•Oh the humanity!English8·18 days agoNah not that I could find
George Snorewell@lemmygrad.mlOPto The Deprogram Podcast@lemmygrad.ml•Oh the humanity!English19·17 days agoYeah that’s actually very true I didn’t rly think about that. I mean the credibility is up there with most other western media outlets, that is to say, very lacking.
I think if it was a 50 cal (I don’t remember what caliber it was), those things r pretty big, if you used a dremel tool with a rly small ball bit and some extremely steady hands, I assume u could do that (not american tho idk how bullet casings work). Still seems like a lot of effort to write anyway.
Looked it up, it was a .30-06 caliber bullet, a lot smaller than a 50 cal and would be nearly impossible even with a dremel tool. This is probably news-media hysteria. Like when the DPRK suddenly bans smiling and laughing for the 3rd time, one Media organisation copies another, copies another, copies another, etc.
If this is what the police report actually says than I think there needs to be photos or smth, cuz after thinking about it for a bit it does sound kinda outlandish.
Edit for further context: A .30-06 casing is around 2 inches long and around half an inch wide (5 x 1.27cm), keeping in mind it is also a cylinder, not a flat surface. The “Bella ciao” message was 9 words totalling 45 characters (incl spaces). You would need to be a god damn artisan to do that by hand.
George Snorewell@lemmygrad.mlOPto The Deprogram Podcast@lemmygrad.ml•Is there a way I can make lemmygrad look like "new reddit"?English6·18 days agoDamn bro but blorp is like exactly what I wanted lol. I mean I don’t think they’d get much from me even if they were malicous or whatever. This acc is just a dumb reddit username and a unique password. I don’t repeat passwords on different accounts so like I doubt much could happen right?
George Snorewell@lemmygrad.mlto The Deprogram Podcast@lemmygrad.ml•Reddit refugees assemble </3English3·18 days agoThanks a lot for this. I’ve saved this comment as a resource to come back to later. Though from your reply I feel maybe you overestimate how experienced or knowledgable I am with this sort of stuff haha 😅. Any research I’ve done regarding this has come purely out of frustration at brands shoving ads down my throat and inconveniencing me in general. Or piracy. It’s not as though this stuff isn’t cool or interesting, I’m kind of just more motivated more by resolving inconvenience than a massive passion for software and programming. But what you mentioned sounds pretty cool and if I don’t find it too difficult I think I’ll try out a lot of what you mentioned. Also I understand the logic to decouple yourself from brands hoarding your data and tracking your activity, it is certainly a valid concern these days.
I meant to send you the link of gnu.org mb
Looking at the website this sounds really interesting, and I’ll definitely look into it more. It says this is separate from linux, I assume it’s similar? I’ve never properly used linux before as an OS, I’ve used WSL a few times running programs for downloading movies or anime or whatever, but I still needed to look up commands and follow directions from the github page. Like I was saying before I’m still very new regarding all this.
Firefox isn’t really a free browser in the sense of freedom
Well I know there’s tor browser and duckduckgo, I hear those are the most private and secure, but idk. I found tor was pretty slow for me and duckduckgo doesn’t have the same amenities google does (though maybe that’s changed nowadays, google has certainly gotten worse, but back in the day that was my main reason for not using it).
Ad-free =! private
I assumed so, I’m just not very knowledgable on which programs are better or worse regarding privacy. I use these because I just wanted to get rid of ads and those were the easiest and most popular options. Also it’s hard to know what to trust in terms of downloading programs, like one that’s popular is at least trustworthy enough that heaps of others downloaded it and survived lol.
so while something like gentoo will be considered hard, something like debian has a very easy process of downloading it on a flash drive
Yeah I think I used unbuntu or debain on WSL.
Have you tried torrenting?
No, I know a little about it but I usually just want to watch something without downloading it yk. So streaming it from some shitty soap2day clone or whatever is just a lot easier than going through a whole process. I know it’s irresponsible, but ublock blocks pretty much all of the malicious elements of those sites anyway, and will warn you before visiting anything potentially dangerous. And I have it set to always ask me before downloading smth, so on the off chance one of these sites tries to download some bullshit I’ll be able to stop it beforehand.
You can customize in settings.
I started using blorpblorp.xyz frontend, someone else told me that it’s not open source, but the layout/UI is so attractive like it’s basically exactly the same as the “new reddit” layout. And if blorp turned out to be keeping my lemmygrad account details it’s like a dumb reddit username and an auto-generated password so I doubt it would be very useful to them.
Anyway thanks again!
George Snorewell@lemmygrad.mlto Comradeship // Freechat@lemmygrad.ml•TIL Thanato-phobia is a thing1·18 days agoYeah that’s definitely worth exploring with a therapist. I mean most ppl like turn 10 or smth and realise they’ll die one day, get super bummed out for some time and then try their best to never think about it again lol. That was me at least haha. But if it’s negatively affecting your mental health then it’s a good idea to address that with someone who can help.
We come up with all these reasons for why death is good and necessary, like “life is only special because it will end one day”, or we subscribe to a religion, which I assume would make death a lot less scary. I mean to me it’s pretty scary to think that one day your consciousness will probably vanish and you just stop existing. But then again, the fact that that scares me is an indication that I have reasons to stay alive. The fact that I don’t want my life to end tells me that I’m doing something right haha.
But then also, like the idea of immortality is scary as well. Watching everyone and everything around you die, knowing that any friend you make or person you meet will leave you eventually, sounds incredibly lonely. And if everyone was immortal I feel you would end up dissatisfied because eventually you’ll run out of new experiences, and the old ones will get boring.
I feel the best case scenario after death in my mind would be reincarnation. Because that’s like a video game with infinite replayability. Starting fresh every time as a different person every time sounds cool. You wouldn’t know you’d been reincarnated, but it sounds better than poofing out of existence or growing old enough that nothing is exciting anymore. Idk death is weird lol.

Yeah blorp works great! I’m not all that familiar with lemmy but I guess u just gotta log in and it’s super similar to what I was looking for. Cheers👍

George Snorewell@lemmygrad.mlto The Deprogram Podcast@lemmygrad.ml•Reddit refugees assemble </34·18 days agoVery true. I’ll take a look at fsf, anything on there I should know about or check out first? Anyway, I already use firefox browser and ublock origin, and have ad-free apks on my phone, and for music I use the VLC app with mp3s I download with programs like yt-dlp. I’ve considered switching to Linux, but it seems kinda redundant unless ur a full-on programmer. I also use mainly pirated websites to watch and/or download movies and shows cuz fuck having 10 thousand $20 a month subscriptions lol. I was just wondering tho, is there a plugin or extension I can install to make lemmygrad look more like the “new reddit” layout? With like bigger pictures and titles, etc. I kinda find that style more appealing tbh.
George Snorewell@lemmygrad.mlto The Deprogram Podcast@lemmygrad.ml•Reddit refugees assemble </326·18 days agoJust joined, hope to see this site grow and flourish given this tragic news. I mean beyond memes and shitposts, r/TheDeprogram had a real culture to it. And now, so much fun content, interesting discussions, resources, etc, are all gone thx to reddit ffs.
It’s really hard. But you have to listen and gently push them in the right direction. Don’t endorse, but don’t outright dismiss him because then they will never listen to you. Listen and be honest. Let him do most of the talking and throw soft disagreements to try and add perspective when the trust is established. A lot of fascist rhetoric uses anti-capitalist rhetoric to disguise itself as beneficial to workers. Try to slowly make him realize that the real enemy is capitalists in general as opposed to whatever Jewish elites he thinks are the enemy.
Encourage his anti-capitalist viewpoints and lightly discourage his fascist bs. Ask contradicting questions in a charitable tone, to poke some holes in their arguments. Not to the point that they get defensive but just to sprinkle seeds of doubt in their mind. This is the only effective way I have found. If this were anyone but family you would want to snap and show them that they’re stupid and delusional, but that isn’t really an effective tactic at opening a narrow mind.
My older brother has autism and used to find refuge in the manosphere types. The jordan petersons, Isaac Butterfields, the “feminists getting owned” types. I think, or at least hope that my gentle approach was part of the reason he has abandoned these figures and opened up his viewpoints. Nowadays he talks about “the rich” much more instead of feminists or vegans or whatever culture war scapegoat of the day. He’s far from reading Marx or putting a Lenin quote in his bio, but he’s readjusted who he should be directing his anger towards.
