Karma requirements only punish people who have different thoughts and opinions and who are honest enough to not cheat by using bots or upvoting their own comments with alts. It’s not a good solution, it punishes people who are honest and don’t commit vote manipulation. It’s why the Lemmy Devs removed score from the API, it’s still possible to get it but it’s harder, and more effort since you have to get it from each comment and post and add them up.

I remember the creator of the bot that does the bans insisted until he was blue in the fact that it doesn’t ban based on downvotes while spewing a lot f technobabble that ultimately ammounted to banning for downvotes. So yeah, he’s trying to bring back one of the worse features of Reddit, that being an ass kissing requirement, that’s what karma requirements are, they are an ass kissing requirement, because the way you get karma points is by kissing ass, the way you lose them is by sharing new or different ideas. See the issue with them? The system punishes people for having ideas that other people don’t like, not that are wrong or evil, but that other people simply don’t like. That’s not even mentioning people who cheat the system by doing vote manipulation to their own comments or to other comments.

Lemmy lacking moderation notifications in the UI or email notification backend doesn’t make it a shadowban, if they were absent from the modlog and didn’t put the banned flag on your profile then that would be a shadowban. They didn’t make an attempt to hide it from you, the communication methods are just very poor right now, there is a reason why Lemmy is on version 0.19.3 or 0.19.8 for the later instances, this is still considered alpha software, it’s not finished. The jank is to be expected for a software in its infancy.

ml is a cesspool. It’s best not to even bother engaging in their communities. They’ll ban you for stupid shit. This needs to be made more well known to help break the network effect they have going on with some of their communities.

Also is a good idea to AFK in the area so that there’s more time for the grass to grow. At least if that’s possible, I understand that it’s not possible for everybody to AFK for long periods of time.

I wasn’t able to do that even, Firefox with HSTS is dumb and goes against user freedom by failing to give a meaningful bypass method. Though I was able to get around it.

FYI people won’t tell you how to disable HSTS enforcement, just delete the contents of the file SiteSecurityServiceState.txt then set permissions of it to read only and owned by root for good measure. Then the unbypassable warnings are able to be bypassed same as any other http warning on an https site.

Just wondering, are you the one who built the farming structure and stone building behind this ruined structure? I repaired the two structures because they weren’t badly damaged and they’re still there, if they’re yours I can put up a sign with your name on them, and if you don’t want them I can just mark them as available for new players to move in.

Still seems very sudden to update the main instance to 0.19 considering there hasn’t been a formal release and it is still very buggy as @GenderNeutralBro@lemmy.sdf.org pointed out the Instance block feature isn’t even functional, but more importantly almost none of the Apps out there actually work with this version.

They learn how to program in a more efficient way that makes better use of limited memory and CPU cycles. Which frankly is something modern programmers and game designers could very much benefit from considering how bloated and unoptimized much of modern software is, probably because they didn’t need to think about whether computers can actually run it.

As far as I can tell Instance rules are basically don’t do anything illegal and don’t be an asshole. Each community has their own rules as well.

Funnily enough I have to hide terminal windows when updating while I’m around any of my less tech savy friends who think it’s scary or creepy. I really dislike them portraying this as “hacking”.
