Honestly, this factoid is the closest thing to a real Total Perspective Vortex that I’ve ever felt.

Thank you for the levity.

Something I couldn’t help but notice today. I work from home most days at my current job, but I’m in the office this week. I’m the sort of person who always looks strangers in the eye and says hello, or just a smile and nod… today as I walked through the buildings to get lunch, not one single person acknowledged me. I almost always get at least a few responses or at least a smile. Today, nothing, every single person stared at the floor, or intentionally looked away when I made eye contact.
I get that there are folks uncomfortable with such interactions, and so I am not offended or upset if I don’t get a response, but despite being surrounded by people, I don’t remember feeling more alone.
Just wanted to share, seems relevant.
Yeah, could be. I still have some old stuff though (my grandpas shirt which has got to be 50 years old). I don’t wear it much, but I still wash it when I do…
Yeah, cold for everything except whites (they get warm plus bleach). Else these days I do still try to separate them into dark and light colors. Jeans do still fade but it doesn’t transfer to the rest.
It must be detergent or washers are easier on clothes. Growing up, all my clothes eventually became the same dirty pink color when I’d wash colors together. These days I just dump everything in and toss in some laundry soap, maybe some softener if we have it around, and I still have clothes that are 20 years old and in regular rotation. Colorful as always.

This kind of shit gets celebrated in this country. Once things die down the outrage machine will kick in and they will say that private, out of context conversations don’t matter, that is unless the can come up with a barely plausible story that it was all fabricated (they are already trying to say it was AI).
It won’t matter that it’s transparent and obvious to everyone. Most people don’t pay enough attention and will forget all about it. It will seem like a distant memory and the “reasonable” people will lecture us about the necessity of forgiveness.
Then they will be caught with an underaged intern or some shit and nothing will come of it since they are just public people with pressures on them that we just can’t understand.
Yeah, I’m a little cynical.

I’m trying to be open and fix the issues, but they just want John back, and the other John who’s here, is so territorial, even when I try to help, he just tries to undermine and fight me.
Fucking John.

I just like the fact that the LMDE version is Debian based and works with everything I’ve thrown it at.
Figure proof of they ever decide to switch away from Ubuntu and mainline LMDE. Probably won’t happen, but makes me feel better anyway :).

Sort of a comedy option, but it’s my distro of choice. As easy as Mint, as stable as Debian. I just don’t trust Ubuntu and since it’s a Debian based distro, why not take one more step…

Oh man am I ever with you. I’m absolutely an idealist, I agree with the OP’s sentiment. But I will absolutely support anyone with any ideology that gets us closer. Small steps are easier to take, this bullshit that everyone thinks we need the perfect candidate with the one weird trick.
See what that got us. I have no goddamned idea where to go from here. I’ll support any ham sandwich that drags us in the right direction.
I’m in the same boat. I love that it makes self hosting easier for me. It does what I need and even gives me a small extra measure of security. I admit, I use it because I’m lazy, I could do it without Cloudflare and do for some services. So, I figure if it truly becomes urgent or intolerable I can drop it from the stack.
One of my family members got into the “blue-green algae” fad (about 5 years after it fell out of mainstream). It was too expensive so they bought the horse algae from veterinarian supply. He said it was exactly the same, as long as you could put up with the grit.
These people exist (and I’m related to them).
Just leaving MPLS, huge turnout. We were near the front of the March. Made it all the way around and back to the beginning and folks were still lined up to even start.
I am less cynical right now than I was earlier today.
