123@programming.devto Technology@lemmy.world•Justice Department Sues Uber for Denying Rides to Passengers with Service Dogs, WheelchairsEnglish1·5 days agoAgreed. Replacing something that creates traffic and congestion, car dependency and deaths with the same but slightly better is not much of an improvement.
Especially when we know for a fact public transportation used to be a thing in north america (where I’m assuming the other commenter is from) before the car industry bribes and acquisitions destroyed it for a larger profit.
123@programming.devto Technology@lemmy.world•Vibe coding has turned senior devs into ‘AI babysitters,’ but they say it’s worth it | TechCrunchEnglish41·5 days agoNot related to the topic at hand but interestingly (?) I’ve gotten used to your weird “th” as 1 character. I could read the entire thing without noticing it. I wonder if others have started to do the same since the upvote ratio seems better than what I remember it being before when people always questioned the usage.

(predictive fart data still sold to healthcare providers).

I’m glad to see it’s the opposite and the judge acknowledges that on many occasions the class action members get the short end of the deal.
Edit: or maybe Disney money made it to the judge to set a precedent 😬

123@programming.devto The Onion@midwest.social•Promising Medical AI Technology Detects Disease With Unaffordable Treatment Much SoonerEnglish5·17 days agoYou are right. Fuck the college students without a career yet that don’t fall into their parents insurance. Also fuck the service people that will never get meaningful coverage since management has kindly shuffled their schedules so they can’t receive fulltime benefits. They should die so the nice executives can receive a bonus! Let also ignore all the things beyond someone’s control that prevent those “simple” things from materializing. Have you considered consulting for the GOP?
Edit: nvm, post history shows a troll or complete imbecile.
123@programming.devto Technology@lemmy.world•Young Workers Haven’t Been Replaced by AI—Economists Are Just Looking for Them in the Wrong PlacesEnglish5·17 days agoThere was no tech middleman taking in part of the profit while making every other part of the transaction a net negative for everyone else though. I do agree that AI might not have much to do with it though.
Or fortunately, the larger the store, the more it messes up with the local economy. The profits from local or semi local businesses can stay in the area. The profits from the large players are funneled out into accounts waiting for the next thing to invest in, sustainable or not.
In many ways Walmart is worse that target. They specifically will go to a town, annihilate its local economy and leave as soon as it becomes slightly inconvenient to their profit expectations.
Not to mention the PR on search engines trying to tell people searching that Walmart is not a net negative for tax payers when a lot of their employees are on social programs. Of they are not paying the taxes, we are. Fuck them.
Edit: relevant video that applies to many big box stores: https://youtu.be/r7-e_yhEzIw

123@programming.devto science@lemmy.world•Is moderate drinking actually healthy? Scientists say the idea is outdated.English1·25 days agoI think the point of the comment you replied to was that you will live until said ages potentially, but the quality of life in the last decade or so will be very poor. Growing up in a society where men drink a lot more than women (at least in my grand parents generation) I can tell you that you will likely also die from alcohol abuse sooner (generally heart attack or diabetes, but that last one also has genetic accelerants), but it is true that the last few years are not pretty.
Edit: when abusing alcohol heavily.
No need, you can find reports of the “complete” sections starting to fail on their own already.
