you lucked out honestly. After book 4 (1997) when we werent sure if there was anything more coming, King got hit by a car in '99. It wasn’t until 2003 when we got the next book in the series, and I dont remember there being a bunch of hype beforehand. Just, King releasing stories again in 2001.

A 6 year wait was brutal, and then the last 3 books of the series came out as fast as most people could read them. (2000 pages of story in 2 years) It was an amazing sprint to the end of a story, that King wasnt sure he was going to be a part of. So it was really amazing to see.

Ive read the first three books about 4 times. The first book a dozen. Its so short that I can finish it in an evening if I want. I still havent finished wizards and glass, but the rest of the series, including wind through the keyhole are on my list for a revisit.

  • It takes a bit to get the swing of what’s happening in battles. It’s not real time and it’s not atb, the mix of the two is great.

I found myself really appreciating the updated content and perspective from the original, but you really don’t need to have played it before.

Every gamer who plays final fantasy knows the basics. Cloud and Arith good, Seperoth bad. But this one expands so much and includes a lot of the story from crisis core and other games in the series.

I get jealous of everyone replaying for the first time. But I’m still looking forward to hearing more about your journey.

  • This was the expected result for anyone watching this from inside labour. The majority of their collective agreement has been agreed to, including some kind of compensation for stand by. The only outstanding issue is the wage, which both sides agreed to leave in the hands of an impartial arbitrator. Most likely each side will make an argument about why they are right. Depending on whether they go with an arbitrator or a mediator, that person could choose either sides argument as the better one. Or they could implement their own.

So if they go the path that allows only one side to be chosen, they need to be the most reasonable. If they go the other way and allow some middle ground to be put in place it’s more about the argument and the reason behind the wage increase.

I don’t know the timelines on federal contracts but I don’t imagine it’ll be much different than provincial, which has very tight timelines to meet, present and have a decision made.

  • That’s where I’m at too. Most of my family is still on FB. But for actual engagement with the rest of the world, it is useless. That’s why I’m here and ok bluesky. I’ll probably hop on this platform to hold a spot and post there when I post on bluesky and Lemmy. See where I get the best conversation. Not about the number of comments. It’s about the quality. Lots of good questions brought up here.

  • The same thing was said around corporal punishment in the past. We have learned that there are more effective, less damaging methods of teaching than yelling, and isolation. I have two kids, I have used physical force when they were too young to understand words (smack on the bottom while in diapers etc). I have raised my voice, I have grounded them from electronics etc. I am doing the best I can with the information I have at my disposal. When they ask questions, they get answers.

At any time I know my children could report me or my spouse to government agents, who would come investigate, review and if I was in the wrong, I would be corrected. But if I was not in the wrong, life would continue. The stigma that comes along with it? Thats the cost of having children really.

If the pre-teens you are dealing with dont understand what abuse is, that sounds like an opportunity for education, not justification.
