Less than how many would die by the rampaging horde if Ukraine gave up. Judging by what happend in Bucha, Irpin, Mariupol or elsewhere.

Oh so is this where you’re going to tell us about the mind control Ray or something? How are we ever going to make Russia give up? Presumably if we have that power we should just do it now.

When it came to israel we managed to pull a gazillion weapons out of thin air. And created special teams to rush weapons shipments to a country committing Genocide instead of one being invaded.

Or bypassing congress, doing secret arms sales, any of the plethora of ways that we use to support israel committing Genocide could have been used to help Ukraine win.

You understand that this isn’t a feud perpetuated by both sides. This is one side desperately trying to fend off an unprovoked invader.

I did not phrase that as a question, because I know you know this.

But just in case, I’ll say something I’m pretty sure you understand as well.

You understand that this isn’t a feud perpetuated by both sides.

There’s been a civil war tearing apart the Donbas since 2014.

I’ll spot you this, the comparison to the USSR in Afghanistan isn’t that far off. America is trying to do a second Operation Cyclone by standing up a hollowed out government and fundamentalist militia with enormous volumes of foreign military aid. The only difference is that its not 1979 anymore and we’re not simply unloading all our Vietnam era surplus onto some useful suckers.

Even in what is supposed to be an asymmetrical guerrilla war, westerners have somehow managed to make Ukraine more expensive for the western intelligence services than eastern traditional military.

We get the “Russia will go bankrupt any minute now” line from the NAFO heads every six months.

It’s the same bullshit we got fed during Iraq and Afghanistan and Vietnam and Korea.

Here it’s moskals who is fighting the locals.

One reason Russia took over Crimea so easily was due to the high Russian-national identifying residents. Same with South Ossetia and Abkhazia. East Ukraine had an enormous Russia-aligned population, which drove the split that provoked the 2014 civil war and ended in the invasion.

And funny you bring up Afghanistan, USSR went down also because of invading it.

The USSR went down to perestroika. Gorbachev’s reform and opening of markets invited record rates of corruption and graft, leading to the oligarchs that installed Yeltsin and Putin a decade later. The Russian military was just about the only institution that survived the hollowing out of the national economy and the dissolution of the old republican system of governance.

Typical past ceasefires or truces with Russia:

    • +0 Hours: Shelling stops on both sides, occasional gunfire erupts in places.
    • +1 Hours: Russians rush supplies to their troops.
    • +3 Hours: Russians violate truce and try to gain as much ground as possible in a surprise attack.

    .

    Fool me once…

In his defense, the Olympics are supposed to be a time where mature people set aside geopolitical tensions and just have fun competing for a few weeks. But this is Putin we’re talking about

Exactly. That POS has been given more chances to not genocide his neighbors than you or I get when using an incorrect PIN to access our own money.

Fuck putin and fuck the russian government.

Also while we’re at it, fuck the IOC. The sports themselves are cool though.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy rejected a call by French President Emmanuel Macron for a truce in the Ukraine-Russia war during the Summer Olympic Games in Paris.

Russia would use any suspension of hostilities to press its military advantage, Zelenskyy said in an interview Friday with Agence France-Presse.

“Let’s be honest … Emmanuel, I don’t believe it,” Zelenskyy told AFP.

On Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin told state media that he had discussed the idea of an Olympic truce with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.

Asked if he would support the idea, Putin reportedly responded with a criticism of Western sports authorities.

In his AFP interview, Zelenskyy vowed to keep fighting Russia’s army.
