Microsoft announced today that it will deprecate WordPad with a future Windows update as it's no longer under active development, though the company did not specify the precise timing of this change.

        you get word free with any Hotmail

        Wait, really? Or do you just mean that a hotmail email writing space has all the same functionality as word?

        I’ll personally be sad to see WP go, I use it a lot because I don’t want MS Office janking up my machine, and the free alts also seem to use a bewildering amount of my PCs power.
