This is the best summary I could come up with:

Russian troops in February captured the city of Avdiivka and in recent weeks they have been advancing further in the east of the country, besieging the town of Chasiv Yar.

Ukrainian commanders acknowledge Moscow has more troops, but say the decisive factor is its superior artillery, as well as war planes, used to pound defences.

The mobilisation age was reduced from 27 to 25 and, from 18 May, draft evaders can lose their driving licence and have their bank accounts frozen and property seized.

Ukraine’s foreign minister, Dmytro Kuleba, admitted that few were likely to come home but he said it was a symbolic move as “guys in the trenches are very tired” while their counterparts in the rest of Europe were “sitting in restaurants”.

He moved to a wealthy neighbourhood of Kyiv because draft officers preferred to operate in poorer districts, where it was easier to catch evaders, he said.

Fedir Venislavskyi, a deputy and member of the national security committee, said the number of would-be escapers was smaller than in 2022, when 6 million refugees left.

The original article contains 1,496 words, the summary contains 178 words. Saved 88%. I’m a bot and I’m open source!

Evading conscription for a defensive war is disgraceful. To then turn around and say you love your country is a slap in the face to everyone who is currently fighting and who has fought.

I’m sure Anton would argue disgraceful is better than dead and I don’t think I could disagree with that on a personal level.

You said that evading conscription is disgraceful, implying that people have a duty to die for the regime which is what allows the war to continue. The whole premise is the height of idiocy. People have no obligation to go and die for a western puppet regime in Ukraine.

He didn’t say, he wants to fight for the Russian regime, that started and drives the war
So how should not helping Ukraine stop the war?

Forcing people to fight does the opposite of stopping the war. What part of that is so darn hard for liberal mind to understand?

Men do have a moral duty to fight to defend their country. This does not mean you HAVE to it only means its the moral thing to do (from my own moral perspective).

A moral duty to defend your country if called upon is not what allows the war to continue its the elected leader that gets to decide the war ends. Ukraine isnt calling up conscripts to extend the war, they are calling up conscripts in a response to increased russian troop numbers and to cycle troops off the battlefield so they can rest. Without conscription the war continues but the odds of losing are even higher.

Nope, nobody has any moral duty to defend a regime they don’t believe in. Period. The fact that you think people have some moral duty to fight makes you a psychopath. The war is already lost, and prolonging this horror is what’s actually immoral. Every single scumbag who advocated for prolonging it has blood on their hands.

I’d rather be a disgrace than a corpse.

I have a lot of respect for people who are willing to put their lives on the line for a cause. I’m not one of those people, and I can’t shame anyone for finding a way out of it. I’m not willing to die for lines on a map.
