I’m actually looking forward to AI fleshing out games. I don’t think we’re ready for the main narrative to be AI driven, but being able to give more flavor and uniqueness to the NPC crowd is immersion I’m after.

I think it would be a good tool. There’s got to be some middle ground where the AI is working within set parameters based on the characters story, and ADDS to what’s already written. I imagine some companion mod maker somewhere will crack it.

Just having NPCs say your character’s name in games where you choose your name would be a good start.

“Tell me, Dicky Normas. Do you believe in Eorzea?”

I think the Bethesda is going to get the most use out of generative AI. Looking at how disappointed everyone was in starfield’s copy pasted worlds, the game would have been massively improved by an “interesting things generator”.

All I want is for the actors to get paid a fair wage. Otherwise, fair game.

This is the second time I’ve referenced it in two days, which is weird, but Neil Stephenson’s The Diamond Age has people who play NPCs in games as a job. Having worked in a call center, I imagine the process is pretty similar. And it wouldn’t be terribly hard to alter voices so they are a close match between plays.

Every time this comes up, nobody ever mentions Mantella, the skyrim vr mod that uses gpt to bring the npcs to life. Its incredible.
