Yeah Android police is hit or miss. Play store emulators are shitty and come with baked-in ads and garbage. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of them are being taken down by the original developers of the emulators they stole the GPL code from to make them.

You don’t need them to be on the PlayStore. Look at F-Droid or Obtainium.
