US when Russia invades Ukraine: They got invaded, we’re sending weapons! Fuck off, Russia, we ain’t negotiating with an invader. We’re helping Ukraine get their land back.

US when Israel’s occupying Palestine: We need to negotiate this with peace. Sure, Israel occupies the land, but it’s to prevent terrorism! Don’t you see the the rockets that are sent into Israel? Think of the civilians in Israel who are being killed by Hamas rockets. We need to de-militarise before we can bring peace.

The suits at Washington speaking on anything dealing with Israel seem very similar to the likes of Russian propaganda being spewed about on RT. Just replace Donbass with Israel, and Azov and Banderites with Hamas and Palestinians. Aside from a few talking points, i just get that vibe.

Before anyone goes all keyboard warrior, I think the invasion of Ukraine and occupation of Palestine are both illegal and unjustified.

As an American, it pisses me off. You can’t be both the aggressor and the victim. Unfortunately a lot of it stems from the Orthodox community and they get whatever they want a lot of the time, for whatever reason. The secular folk I know feel it gives them a bad image internationally, which it does. The settlement program needs to end yesterday.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

The UK statement has been met with dismay by Palestinian diplomats, as well as international humanitarian law experts, who say it ignores not just the fact that Israel’s occupation is entrenched, but that the situation is rapidly deteriorating.

A UN general assembly resolution in December requested the advisory opinion from the ICJ on the “legal consequences arising from the policies and practices of Israel in the occupied Palestinian territory”.

Since then, Israeli settlement and infrastructure building in the West Bank and East Jerusalem has accelerated, and settler violence against Palestinian communities is at its highest level since records began in 2005.

Of particular relevance to the ICJ referral is the transfer of several aspects of the administration of the West Bank from military control to a pro-settlements civilian minister – a move rights groups point out constitutes de jure annexation.

It also does not reference relevant UN findings since 2016 that Israel has repeatedly failed to fulfil its obligation to uphold the rights of the Palestinian people and violated international humanitarian law.

An international criminal court (ICC) investigation into alleged war crimes committed by both Israeli army personnel and Palestinian armed groups officially opened in 2021, but is progressing slowly.
