I never felt compelled to try out the “Survivor” genre until DRG: Survivor came out. I’ve played about 12 hours of it exclusively on the Steam Deck and I love it. Part of what I think makes it so compelling for me is that the goal is actually to mine, just like in DRG, and the survivor aspect of it comes into figuring out how to mine as much as you can before you’re forced to move on or die. I can see the structure being frustrating for some – the game mechanics force you to move on, sometimes before you’d like to – but at its core it’s an optimization puzzle: you only have so much time per floor, how do you maximize the balance between mining for resources (which feed into both the run and meta progression) and defeating enemies (which gives you XP to level up). It’s a great game and I’d highly recommend it to anyone who thinks it looks half-interesting.

This is awesome! Hopefully it addresses an issue I was having where it would start locking up pretty bad after a while of playing. I love this game!

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor, one of the most popular recent Early Access releases that follows the trend set by Vampire Survivors has been marked Steam Deck Verified after a recent update.

In a patch released on February 27th the developers noted various improvements like UI sizing, specifically “in an effort to get Steam Deck Verified” and their work has paid off as Valve gave it the full green Steam Deck Verified tick.

It also has a Platinum rating on ProtonDB with many Linux users on a PC noting how well it runs.

Players seem to love it too with a Very Positive user rating, and it’s regularly seeing a peak player count over around 20,000 each day.

Although in this case, the game is spin-off of an already popular game so it was kind of to be expected that Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor would do quite well.

It’s one I’ll be taking a proper look at sometime soon since I love these survivor-likes and the demo was awesome.
