This is much less anti-Biden than the shit you usually post. Do you view this as a major negative for some reason? Why is that?

Their need to post anti-Biden articles is superseded by their determination to post articles before someone else does it first. (They actually complained that other people were posting articles they wanted to post before they could.)

It’s a politics sub. I post political articles. There will be a wide spectrum of POTUS articles. If you like it, upvote. If you don’t, downvote. Voice your opinion on the content of the article for discussion.

Yes, we’re all aware. I was inviting you to share your opinion on the article, but I guess you aren’t interested in engaging beyond just spamming new posts?

Ffs! This is the OPPOSITE of what they should be doing!

There’s a lot of illegal immigration because doing it legally can take many years and tens of thousands of dollars. Even if your life is literally in danger in your home country or “safe intermediary” or whatever nonsense the racist Trump administration came up with!

Making it harder to even APPLY for asylum and easy for ICE thugs quickly deport those that don’t live up to the new standards are going to cause two things:

1: A shitload of refugees being killed, persecuted and otherwise abused in their country of origin or elsewhere in the region because they got turned away

2: MORE illegal immigration as doing it legally becomes harder without the conditions people are fleeing from (a huge chunk of which are at the very least indirectly caused by US meddling) being resolved.

Yup. DNC is, as always, laser focused on the tiny sliver of the electorate between the most conservative Democrats and the least conservative Republicans while completely disregarding the tens of millions of ideologically disenfranchised potential voters to the left of them. Same as they’ve done since 1992.

It produces ridiculously narrow (considering that the alternatives are always idiots, obviously corrupt, or both) presidential victories and congressional majorities at the best of times, but this time I’m afraid it’s going to cost them the presidency.

And, despite the propaganda from them and their blindly loyal party soldiers, if that happens, it will be THEIR fault, not the fault of the voters who they simultaneously alienate and take for granted.

If voters actually care about policies and the border is a major issue then it’s a smart political move. You essentially pull the rug out from the republican party and leave them nothing to work with, cause they voted against border policy changes recently.

The issue is that I’m not sure voters care. It’s become so hard to understand if any of this positioning matters or if democrats would just be better off doing what the Republicans do and just try cram through legislation regardless of whether they can actually pass anything.

They always try to appeal to the right while punching left. It’s no wonder liberals are supporting right wing candidates like Biden. They’ve moved so far to the right in their pursuit of right wing voters they’ve become one of them.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

The actions, which are still weeks away from finalization, are an effort to lower the number of migrants crossing the southern border illegally as immigration remains a top issue for voters heading into the 2024 presidential election.

Under the new policies, asylum officers would be instructed to raise the standards they use in their “credible fear interviews,” the first screening given to asylum-seekers who are trying to avoid deportation for crossing the border illegally.

And Immigration and Customs Enforcement would be told to prioritize recently arrived migrants for deportation, in a “last in, first out” policy, the officials said.

A congressional aide with knowledge of the deliberations said the Biden administration has yet to make a decision, but raising the bar on asylum and deporting more newly arrived migrants are considered “low hanging fruit” and actions that can be taken quickly.

Without the bill, any action the president takes unilaterally will be limited in scope because the Department of Homeland Security is short on funding.

ICE is currently facing a budget shortfall of more than $500 million and may have to start cutting key services by May without more money from Congress, sources told NBC News last week.
