What are they doing in Jordan?
That’s actually a really good question:
https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/americans-killed-middle-east-1.7097419
“The small installation, which Jordan does not publicly disclose, includes U.S. engineering, aviation, logistics and security troops. Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin said the troops were deployed there “to work for the lasting defeat of ISIS.” Three officials said the drone struck near the troops’ sleeping quarters, which they said explained the high casualty count.”
All just part of our long standing partnership with Jordan. Interesting that Jordan is not claiming the installation, preferring to state it’s in Syria.
Jordan not taking responsibility for the base on their land is how you know some shady ass black site shit is going on there - it’s a convenient way to reduce liability in case it ever comes out.
Syria being a near failed state seems like a good scapegoat to pin shit like this on.
Or they just don’t want to get dragged into a larger conflict. “Jordan? Nah, nah, nah, it ain’t LIKE that… that’s SYRIA!”
This makes more sense, considering what a hotbed that entire region is. But wouldn’t this cause issues if Syria later claims that the base is actually on their land and redraes borders or something?
Oh, definitely, but I don’t think Syria is all that organized at this point. Jordan’s probably counting on that.
Tower 22 is more like a rear det for Al Tanf. It’s a way to project force into Syria without actually going in and leaving the SDF to work the Syrian side, with the implication that Syria might attack the SDF base but not risk attacking Jordan. There are bases in Jordan, well, not bases like Germany or Kuwait but diplomatic compounds with every thing that comes with that.
It’s not a black site though, they’ve posted pictures a few years back when a Syrian drone wrecked a few buildings.
Nah, it’s the Middle East. “America” is reason enough to be embarrassed about it.
Suppress the population from rising up against their government. The 2020 American military aid picture (before Ukraine) paints pretty well which governments are American puppets. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_foreign_aid
‘Coincidentally’ Egypt and Jordan are right next to Palestine.
At this point, it feels more likely than not the Middle East is going to explode.

This is the best summary I could come up with:
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — President Joe Biden said Sunday that the U.S. “shall respond” after three American troops were killed and dozens more were injured in an overnight drone strike in northeast Jordan near the Syrian border.
Iran-backed fighters in east Syria began evacuating their posts, fearing U.S. airstrikes, according to Omar Abu Layla, a Europe-based activist who heads the Deir Ezzor 24 media outlet.
The U.S. in recent months has struck targets in Iraq, Syria and Yemen to respond to attacks on American forces in the region and to deter Iran-backed Houthi rebels from continuing to threaten commercial shipping in the Red Sea.
Jordan, a staunch Western ally and a crucial power in Jerusalem for its oversight of holy sites there, is suspected of launching airstrikes in Syria to disrupt drug smugglers, including one that killed nine people earlier this month.
Three officials with Iran-backed militias in Iraq, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter with journalists, said the drone attack against the base in Jordan was launched by one of the Iraqi groups.
Associated Press writers Bassem Mroue and Abby Sewell in Beirut, Qassim Abdul-Zahra in Baghdad, Omar Akour in Amman, Jordan and Jon Gambrell in Jerusalem contributed to this report.
The original article contains 1,094 words, the summary contains 211 words. Saved 81%. I’m a bot and I’m open source!
The US killed 10 people when they attacked the baghdad international airport with a drone strike in 2020. So dont cry now. You never faced consequences for this terror attack.
I really hope Dark Brandon demolishes these fucks.
As someone who voted for him in 2020: I don’t.
I’m sure it will be a proportional response.
Biblical proportions?
Last time we had a proportional response in that part of the world we sank half the Iranian navy in 8 hours.
Hi, what conflict was this?
Operation Praying Mantis, I believe.
So…I was right!
Won’t be his sons dying anyway, some other desperate american will - but hey war cool, lets have fun!!
His son did serve and went to Iraq. So nice try on the cheap shot.
I voted for Biden and will in the next cycle, but this dark Brandon meme stuff will never cease to make me physically cringe…
It’s some trumpian demigod worship level cringe…

They’d rather move to the right or lose to fascists than compromise with leftists.
I’ll say one thing for Trump, he got the pro-corporate trash DNC to show their true colors. Hopefully they slide so far right they make the Republican party nonviable and it opens the door for a new party. A leftist party. It’s time.
This is American news, not World news.
American soldiers stationed in Jordan being killed by Iran and potentially causing another Middle East war with major power involvement isn’t world news? Huh
Are American election results world news? They have a huge global ramification after all.
Debatable, trumps win possibly as fascists taking over any nation is a concern for the world.
This story involvecombat between. the governments of three of the planets less than 200 nations, there’s no way it isn’t world news.
The reason so many people want a clear delineation between US news and world news is that we hear about what happens to the US every day, every where.
World News subs are often places to escape that and provide a space for everything else in the world to have a voice.
Might as well bring r/anime_titties over here so we can have a sub focused purely on non-US related news.
🙄
👌
This is one of those boundary crossing stories.
US troops dying inside the US? - US News. (yes, it DOES HAPPEN).
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/us-army-soldiers-killed-truck-flips-alaska-training-rcna118527
US troops dying as a result of foreign action inside a 3rd country? - World News.
So we can post about Americans being killed by cartels in Central/South America?
Yes, with a caveat…
US citizens getting killed through foreign action in foreign countries? - World News
Trump talking about wanting to use the US military to invade Mexico? - US News / Politics. Not world news.
So just to clarify, would this be okay?

I’m not trying to be a smart arse here either, genuinely curious.
I PERSONALLY would allow it, other mods may disagree.
I could see it being reported as a “small” story not rising to the level of “news”. It’s definitely not on the same scale as Iranian affiliated forces killing Americans in Jordan, which could spark either a new regional war, or a new front on an existing war.
Eh I guess that’s fair. Thanks.
Iran backed group attacks American troops in Jordan.
Literally news in three countries
Considering the Suez canal is being effectively blockade, this affects everyone, and is very much world news.
Bad bot
Would this be Rule 5 (or even 6)? My reports never seem to go through, so I’ve gotta tag you manually to do so sorry.
