Given that ships are reporting ties to China to avoid getting targeted and state-owned COSCO has stopped serving Israel in exchange for Red Sea transit, I’m not really sure what pressure the US hopes to apply here.

China doesn’t care about the Houthis because they’re not interrupting Chinese trade.

So the Houthis are working with China and only attacking US trade ships?

Ansar Allah are interdicting ships from countries involved in the genocide in Gaza that sail ships through their sovereign waters. China is not engaged in the genocide so their ships are being let through. Hope that clears things up for you.

US has put itself into a quagmire with its actions in Yemen, yet they now come crawling to China for assistance. Beijing has responded wisely, stating that the conflict in the Red Sea is merely a spillover from the Gaza situation. The US holds significant leverage over Israel, but instead of using it to bring peace to the region, they add fuel to the fire while expecting their geopolitical rival to bail them out of this mess. This is truly astonishing.
