I guess if it happens, this is the point the anti-islam activists were trying to prove and if anybody is injured it will increase the racism against islamic groups, which was what anti-islam activists wanted. Iterate

It really is an almost impossible situation. The far right will win this one regardless what the government does. If they do nothing we will probably see some form of terrorism sooner or later, if they clamp down on it they will prove the activists right in that the government will reduce freedom of speech just because some muslims cant behave.

Maybe theres some way to eke out a win but I cant see it.

Since the spiral of escalation is made of a disconsiderate small escalation (book burning) and a disproportionate large escalation (terrorism), I’d argue most of the onus for a destabilisation lies with terrorists and giving in arbitrarily sets a bad example for any other communities e.g. “hey, the only way any of these people will do what we want is with violence”.

I like Finland’s solution: throw public book burning together with “hate speech” or threatening people in public laws (since these guys know they’re doing this to both threaten and tease Muslims in public) and this way you’re not favouring Muslims for having a few unhinged idiots who are willing to go too far beyond every other community’s unhinged idiots.

So the spiral of escalation starts with the book burning? Nothing has been happening to Muslims that involved Europe, Scandinavia, or Sweden’s role in global capitalism and exploitation of the global south? It’s the book burning that started the escalation?

Thank you, if you can explain the difference for natural languages (not programming languages), I’ll replace it :)

PS: According to an English dictionary, the words are synonymous, but fuck it 🤓 : by analogy to programming languages, I assume that iterate here would be “repeat this sentence” and recurse would be “go to beginning of sentence”, yes?

This is the best summary I could come up with:

LONDON, Aug 13 (Reuters) - Britain on Sunday warned citizens going to Sweden of possible terrorist attacks following Koran burnings by anti-Islam activists that have outraged Muslims.

In updated travel advice, Britain’s foreign ministry said Swedish authorities had successfully disrupted some planned attacks and made arrests.

“You should be vigilant at this time,” it said, adding that “terrorists are very likely to try and carry out attacks in Sweden” with places visited by foreigners potential targets.

In a statement acknowledging Britain’s changed travel advice, Sweden’s National Security Advisor Henrik Landerholm reiterated the increased threats to Sweden since the burnings.

Landerholm said the storming of Sweden’s embassy in Iraq on July 19, an attempted attack on its embassy in Lebanon on Aug. 9, and also the Aug. 1 shooting of an employee at a Swedish consulate in Turkey contributed to the risk assessment.

The U.S. government has also warned of possible terrorist attacks in Sweden in its travel advice.

I have a feeling that Sweden will just ignore it, thinking it impossible in their country
