Canada’s total fertility rate fell again last year, reaching a record low of 1.25 children per woman, following years of decline.

Published Wednesday, new data from Statistics Canada show the birth rate slipping 1.6 per cent from 2023; the first year that fertility rates fell below 1.3 children per woman.

I’m not seeing anything in the short or medium turn that could turn this around either.

You either deal with wealth inequality and consolidation or live with the many results.

I don’t know much about them to be honest. It does seem like their taxation system is more fair than most though.

There’s got to be a saturation point of correlated pressures. Like age, size, amount of available resources, culture, ect. I don’t think you can compare 1:1, can you?

I’m just trying to point out that Nordic countries did address those things and their birthrate is still incredibly low, I am starting to think that even given the free time, support, and financial resources, the majority of people don’t want kids. Not a single country has been able to raise their birthrate above replacement once it has gone below.

This, once women are free to choose (free of religious indoctrination, patriarchal coercion or a lack of access to contraception/abortion) they mostly choose 0,1 or 2 kids. This happens every where. Sweden pours a fortune into helping women , Hungary gives massive tax incentives and bonuses to breed, none of that works either.

If you want to continuously grow the poulation for some stupid reason, for every woman choosing that, you need another choosing 4 or more, even 2 is below replacement.

A goal of a planet with no more than 100million should be aspirational.

    How terrible, apparently.

We went from dog-whistling about ‘there’s too many people!’ to dog-whistling about ‘there’s not enough people!’ like flipping a light-switch.
