“Previously On” segments do the same thing for me. What’s that, you’re showing a character who appeared 8 episodes ago and gave an ominous warning? Wonder if THAT will come to fruition this episode?
I don’t mind that since it’s just a reminder of things I’ve already seen. It is wild when they reference things from many episodes or seasons ago, but it’s a nice reminder if you’re not bingeing the show.
Plus Game of Thrones pulled off the best version of this.
Game of Thrones season 5 spoiler
The season 5 finale has a previously on that includes Uncle Benjen talking to Jon Snow, saying that they’ll talk when he returns. A scene that happened at the beginning of season 1.
It’s an action packed episode so when we finally get to the end with Jon and he’s pulled away with rumors of his Uncle Benjen we’re already primed for it. Without the previously on some random character would have to bring him up during the episode, which would have been weird.
The excitement comes from the viewer reacting the same way as Jon.

They basically are. Not as bad as trailers that show Act 3 of a movie, but any fool is going to know that whatever characters or scenes they show are going to re-appear in that episode, and spoil the surprise.
I skip them every chance I get. The same with future episode previews.
GOOD what a stupid fucking thing. Whoever thought it was a good idea to spoil the most iconic scenes of the episode within the first 5 seconds must have some serious brainrot. I do not understand it.
It’s the Gold Rush effect. Showing you all the good bits in the first 6 seconds assuming you have goldfishbrain.

I assume the same person who added it to movie trailers. It’s weird to watch a trailer, but the first 5 seconds of the trailer is a rapid fire of trailer images. It’s like a trailer for trailer.

So I agree these are stupid, but these really are blink and you’ll miss it moments. I’ve been watching this season and had no idea what this article was talking about.
I went back and sure enough they’re there, but most are just Dexter doing Dexter things it feels more like a character recap than spoiling future events.
That being said, just because I missed both of the spoilers mentioned in the article doesn’t mean they’re a good idea. Once I’m watching the episode I don’t need to be convinced with a sneak peek, I’m watching it.
the fact that you missed them just proves they’re (at best) useless and a waste of time for the editors.
I actually think the fast snippets are pretty cool it gives me everything I want from a trailer in like 5 seconds lol

People complaining about spoilers have been a thing for longer, but this insistence on no spoilers at all started with Disney’s super intense secret keeping for the MCU
I always didn’t like how Battlestar Galactica did the same “show clips from the episode” in the intro either. I don’t think many people did either.
That was the standard for years, Murder She Wrote would sometimes even show the murder in the intro

i’ve been anti spoiler for like 20 years now, since i watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind without knowing anything about it.
i want to react and enjoy the media purely in the moment, so I try to avoid as much news of upcoming projects as possible, including trailers.
